A quick thanks for the ideas and inspiration

I am not really "into" home cinema as such but when I needed a replacement TV I came across this community via Google.

I marvelled at the installations here and got bitten by the bug.

I do not regard myself as DIY savy but being a yorkshireman I'll have a go at owt.

So here are the results.

42"" Toshiba LCD £500
Samsung HT-X725 5.1 £240
Next gloss media bench x2 £250 each

Again, thanks for the ideas.

mooperman/alz2605-thanks for the encouraging words.

Matt_C-That is the top loading DVD/amplifier unit. Unconventional and takes a bit of getting used to.

Did you make the "off-floor" cabinet yourself?

No, that's a pair of Next media benches designed to sit on the floor which I wall mounted.

It took ages Googling to find the right length units (2.6m total) with the black piano gloss finish to fit the wall space.

Re: A quick thanks for the ideas and inspiration

looks like a really good start from someone not into the whole av thing. I especially like the unit and its floating effect.

Re: A quick thanks for the ideas and inspiration

Pretty sure the floating idea came from AvForums.

Re: A quick thanks for the ideas and inspiration

2" x ¾" spars fixed to the wall which I screwed into.

One length below each unit to provide support.
The rear of the units are rebated slightly so, one length behind each unit near to the top surface. This keeps the units tight to the wall.

Then there are three pieces of unused parts which I screwed to the joint between the units underneath and out of sight which keeps the joint between the two units flush and level.

If this is unclear I can post an image when I get back to my lappy.
