Wangers Bungalow Conversion (With some AV eventuallly)

Hi all.

This is going to be a progress thread and might be a fair few months till there is a full setup in the place.

My folks have recently bought a bungalow for there retirement home and i
have decided to live with them for a few more years as im only 20 and would
prefer to save a few pennys after spending a few on some AV
Ill say now there is alot of work to be done on this place
(i.e. strip everything out and strip it back to basics and start a fresh)
Obviously there is alot more stuff i would have loved to have done with the place but as its not mine ive got to go with my folks ideas.
Here goes. Ill try do this is in sections, from old to latest pics.
Hopefully by the end of it there will be a nice looking bedroom with 5.1 and a 1080p projector

Front of the Bungalow
Back of the Bungalow
Few weeks after we bought the place a big hole appeared in the front garden
[U]Quick call to the Coal Board[U]
Quickly followed by a fair bit of digging
Glad to report that the hole was filled in and all is well now

Next up for the outside was conservatory

Re: Wangers Bungalow Conversion (With some AV eventuallly)

Next up we can go inside
As you can see this bungalow is very dated! We bought it with all the furnishing still in as the previous owner had died and all his family didn't seem too fussed about his belongings with them only removing things that would be of value like TVs etc.
First right is into the lounge.
The first bit of AV for the place was my doing.
Me and my pops both insisted on having CAT6
cabled into pretty much every room. My idea
to cable from the lounge to what will be my
room with Component, HDMI and 2 x USB.
Component to show SKY HD in my room aswell
as lounge. HDMI to transfer PC from bedroom
to lounge when needed. and USB for mouse\keyboard
or for XBOX remotes if i play xbox from my bedroom
in the lounge through the component.
Fair bit of plastering later!!!
Thats it for the lounge for now.

Onto the front bedroom (parents)
The most awkward bit in this room was the cupboards. Caused quite a bit of damage getting them out.

Next Room will be the study when finished for Pops.
Bit of brick smashing later and we had a door!

Re: Wangers Bungalow Conversion (With some AV eventuallly)

Next room will be my room and this is where most of AV will be.
Small problem with the conservatory leaking into the bedroom
That will be getting sorted ASAP.
This is where i hope it will get interesting for you all.

Your going to have to bare with me on the AV setup but it will hopefully be worth the wait.
In the bedroom. Im going to have my current setup at home which will be: 5.1 Yamaha amp.
37" LG3000 XBOX 360 PS3 250GB DVR and a few others.
New purchases will probably be some kefs and a 1080p Optoma HD200x with a 92" screen.
Really looking forward to getting this finished and were all very excited for the finished article.
Spent pretty much every weekend since we bought it back in the summer.
Will be back soon with some updated pics.
Hope you all enjoy and apologies for it not been so much AV at the moment but it will definately be AV orientated by the end of all of this!
Thanks for looking

Long story but.....
From what we figured out, the guy who use to own the place had fallen out with his son in law and accused him of breaking into his house and toying with his head by doing things like cutting the tops out of his hats and things like that.

All was a bit weird, but we found a few letters kind of explaining the cameras.

There were four.

One in the picture.
One in the front garden
Once in back garden
And then one in the lounge.

Its been an interesting few months and have found some comical stuff in this place!

The amount of junk was unbelievable!

Page 3 girls (and page 3 guys) from 1981. That has to be the one that made me laugh the most.
The guy was Frank Bruno.

Re: Wangers Bungalow Conversion (With some AV eventuallly)

looking good

Gonna keep and eye on your thread, looks like quite an interesting little project you've got there. Kinda jealous, I'm buying a new build and moving end of the month and I'm gonna miss out a renovation project and turning it into something special. (2 young babies... building site not suitable). One day...

Are you planning on keeping the cameras? I was thinking they'd make quite a nice baby monitor system if your getting rid.

Yeah its been alot of hard work so far but had a good laugh with the old man.

The cameras are sat at my house under my desk doing nothing.

Only 3 of the cameras work and they connect to any screen with S-Video.
Very good quality i must say and they also work in the dark with the LED light.

They would have cost him about 400 quid brand new. Not cheap piece of kit.

Still interested?

Hi mate, Good little project you have going. Id be wary of using the plastic backboxes that you have been sinking in the wall for your equipment, they get quite easily damaged if overtightened slighty or if cross threaded.

Re: Wangers Bungalow Conversion (With some AV eventuallly)

Quick update.

Rest of the fascias should be with me by the end of the week and installed.

Have decided to go for a projector aswell in the bedroom. Probably going to be the BenQ W600 if it reviews well with 80 something" or 92" not sure yet.
With it been quite a small-ish room i'm wary of it being too big.

I will probably need a new amp as the one i have is pants!
And L,R + Centre speakers. Looking at some KEFs but we will see if i can get a deal on those.

So the lights aren't in the way, i think its going to be spotlights as well in the ceiling, built in, so there flush.

Looking like its probably going to be end of spring end of summer next year by the time we move in so perhaps all this will change

One quick update which im very excited about!

I have just picked up a 92" Sapphire screen from classifieds for 60 quid.

Pretty much brand new, not a scratch on it.

Planning on taking all the brakets and everything up for the projectore screen and TV etc at the weekend and maybe getting all the walls drilled and prepped but we will see.

Kit List is going to look something like this.

37LG3000 TV
92" Sapphire Projector Screen - SWS200WSF-ASR2
720\1080 projector - Still unsure which projector to go for
Amp - Still to buy
Speakers - Still to buy
Sony RDR-HXD995 250GB DVR
Sky + HD
XBOX 360
PS3
Hyundai W240d - TFT Monitor
AMD Quad Core 2.2GHz 4Gb DDR2-8000, ATI Radeon 4870
Apple Macbook Pro

Ive also got a Sony 26V4000 which is a cracking TV (probably my favourite bit of kit) but there may be no place for it unfortunately.

If i get any work done over the weekend then pictures will be posted as soon as i can.

Thanks for looking!

A good storyline there to build on.

I moved house three years ago with a 3yr old daughter and then we had our son.

If only i had got the house finished before he was born, it has been chaos ever since.

Just some skirting board to paint now and i have finished. Keep this thread going it looks good.

Living in Mansfield??
