My Wormhole........

Well, I started a project a while back in the summer first to build a patio, then renovate the dining room, bathroom then the lounge then lastly the kitchen, basically a full home renovation. Well, I've now done it all except for the kitchen.

Here are the pics of the main living room renovation.

This is what I started with

Started taking the old cabinets on either side of the chimney out, and the mantle piece too, also broke the door out that led to the dining room and also made the opening wider

Next was to chase the cables into the walls

Next was to lay the underfloor heating (no pics of that ) and get it plastered

I then put everything back in and ended up with this

Kit list is:

Denon 1909
Samsung BDP-1500
Samsung PS50A457
Sky HD
Xbox 360
PS3
B&W HTM62
B&W 684s
B&W DS3s
BK Monolith
Velodyne SMS-1
Logitech Harmony 1000
All HDMI cables are Mark Grant
All Speaker Cables are QED Silver Anniversary

Light controller is a Mode SceneStyle2. Thing I want to upgrade are the TV to possibly a Panny V10, the Blu Ray player to a Denon 3800, and the Amp to a Denon 3310. Also want to get a Pronto TSU9800 oneday. Well, I guess this is it.

Next on the to do list is get new wall lights (currently there are none but the wiring is in place) and get a new sofa (an L shaped one) and also a rug for the middle of the room. Also trunking for the few cables infront of the chimney breast. Going off to ikea next weekend too to get some cabinets to hide all the equipment in so I'll take pics of that when I put them together next weekend. I have the RF extender kit for the Harmony 1000 so putting everything in the cabinets wont be a problem, I'll just leave the backs off for ventilation. Also got to go get some new doors over the weekend.

Thanks for looking.

Re: My Wormhole........

The Bathroom Excuse the garbage photos, I'm not the best photographer ever.

Started with this

Then ripped everything out

Then put the new stuff in

Also got underfloor heating in there, its so nice to get out of a warm bath and step onto a warm floor

Re: My Wormhole........

Wow, looking very snazzy. Very different to how it was before!

The floor tiles are interesting. Is it as dark as the pictures suggest? Wonder how they'll affect the sound? Might be worth putting a rug down to dampen the sound a bit and lighten the room?

Just my 2p idea.

I look forward to seeing how it progresses! Keep up the good work!

Re: My Wormhole........

Yeah they are pretty dark, so is the wall the TV is on, the wall is alot darker than in the photos, gives a nice contrast to the bright white walls. Also when watching a film at night (only set everything up again last night) you only see the picture you dont see the bezel or anything or the TV.

The sound is actually surprising good in here, still going to get a rug in here for it all to make it sound even better.

I am actually looking for something like this

Alphason ABR800B LCD / Plasma TV furniture

Just with no glass on the front, so it is fully covered.

I'd spend even longer in the thing than I do normally, would take up too much of my day, probably a bad idea me ever considering one!
How good is the under floor heating, is it enough to warm it up (to say the same warmth of the floor when the sun has been shining through the window on it) or to just take the chill off? Have been in different bathrooms where the heating has been quite different in how warm the floor is - is it perhaps adjustable?

The heating in the bathroom gets warm but not hot, if you know what I mean?

I currently have it set on 28degs which makes it feel like those days when the sun has been shining on the floor all day long and you dont get a shock when getting out the bath or anything. Its on a thermostat so can be adjustable to how hot you want it, even on a clock so it will say be 25degs during the day but when it gets to 4pm it will go up to say 28 or 30degs, then cool down when everyone is sleeping.

I am getting the dining room retiled next weekend so I will then be able to extend the heating in the living room to the dining room. Both rooms are on the same circuit so I can only turn the living rooms heating on when I have laid the dining rooms, which will be next weekend.

Re: My Wormhole........

Just a quick update, the kitchen is the next thing on the list of rooms to redo. I had an idea though, I have some kitchen fitters coming around this weekend to tell me if its possible and how much it will cost.

But in the room where the dining room is going to be (below with the all the crap in it)

I want to get the kitchen moved in there which will give me a nice big open plan living space with lounge and kitchen with a breakfast bar in the one room then I can turn the current small kitchen room into a second bedroom. Will post pics when its all finished. Also does anyone know of any closed AV cabinets similar to

Alphason ABR800-B - Alphason AMBRI Series - Alphason Stands - Stand and Deliver

but with no glass in the front? I am desperately looking for something like that.

Re: My Wormhole........

The Monolith does sound amazing, I still need to run it through REW and see the result of my room, I run it through an SMS-1 at the moment and honestly, I cant fault the sound.

It was quite an inconvience doing all of this, I've been sleeping in amongst all building work on a couch for the past few months, it all winding down now, just the kitchen to finish up next. Getting the guys to come in and give quotes for the work on saturday, most of it is again going to be a DIY job but some stuff I want a really professional look to the kitchen, so they will do a bit of it for me.

Thanks for looking guys

I got the Taps from the net, cant remember what shop but if you search for Vado Taps you'll find them.

I am using Electric underfloor heating, the rooms are small enough to make it not that expensive to run it, plus its not run as the main source as heating, its mainly just to take the chill off the floor and make it more comfortable to walk on in the winter months.

bathroom looks really stunning and modern, not sure on the cinema room flooring, even with under floor heating id much rather a fluffy carpet under my sockless feet. But i love the colour of the wall behind the tv and its definitely an improvement.

Universal LCD/Plasma 50 inch ZIN422510/BKI TV Stand ZIN422510/BKI

The front is kinda transparent, you cant see the equipment through them, but you can see the lights, kinda like that sony walkman

Okie Dokie update time

I have got prices for the kitchen so thats all going ahead in the new year, into the what would have been dining room

The room with the all the crap in

Is going to be turned into this (drawn on google sketch up, not that good a drawing either)

Units are coming from Diy-kitchens.com and all allpliances are Fagor. I am planning to be start this end of january begining of february, I am getting it fitted by the pros though so hope it all turns out well. Cant wait, its going to turn my living room into an open plan living room / kitchen. Then where the kitchen is currently I am going to turn it into a second bedroom. This new kitchen is going to also open onto the patio so for summer bbq's its going to be awesome. Its actually working alot cheaper than I though, its going to cost about 4.5k to buy the cabinets and the appliances and about 2k to fit it (our first quote) and that includes the elctrics, moving the boiler etc, I was expecting to pay alot more tbh.

The Cabinets are going to be gloss black with dulux brilliant white walls and a dark walnut wood counter tops, all appliances are going to intergrated and also going to have the charcoal tiles flow from the living room into the kitchen, and also the underfloor heating. Cant wait to get this one started and finished.
