I was at Ikea today and decided that i'll be going for some of the Besta units for housing my Sky HD, Av Receiver etc once i've had my TV wall mounted and false wall built around it.

Re: My new "besta" set up!

Hi, I am looking to get the same Ikea setup as you. Could you tell me what frame they are? is it the bookshelf extension frame with doors on, or does it come as a standard unit?

Could you show a picture or describe how the push-open doors work? As I'm looking to buy those too!

It looks really good in your room

Re: My new "besta" set up!

It might well be the bookshelf extension, i went to ikea and went for the deepest one. i think it in the extension though. I bought 3 units @ £20, to draws @ £8 (they come with runners) and two fronts @ 9 (i think) and 12 legs @ £2.50 per pack of 2, so 6 packs. the push cathces are just a simple spring loaded, i used 2 packs, one either side of each draw, you could use one per draw but it feels a bit more powerful with the two.

Will update with a picture, hope that helps.

Sam

Re: My new "besta" set up!

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply - the depth is a factor I need to think about, but also needed to know if the draw fronts fit the unit in regards to how the middle shelf lines up in the middle.

I want two double-width units with draws on the bottom of all 4 sections, then enough room on the top open shelf for a Cambridge Audio Azur amp, Sky box, PS3 and a DVD player. The Amp having enough ventillation and depth for speaker connections is the main issue.

I'm off to Ikea this week for a look myself. Really like the dark brown colour too.

Re: My new "besta" set up!

thats how i wanted mine but space wouldn't allow it which is a shame but never mind.

If you look at my pictures the shelf is as low as it will go with a draw fitted, but you could always put a draw front on and no actual drawer so that you could lower the shelf to fit. My PS3 and xbox both sit on the shelves with a draws though, depends what height your amp will be?

As for ventilation, at the minute i have removed the back of mine because i am going to cut holes in the back for cables and ventilation.
Will put pics up when completed!

Any questions just ask

Re: My new "besta" set up!

Hi Sam,

I went to Ikea last night, and after measuring up, ended up buying three single units instead of two double ones, so have the same as you. I also bought the push open fittings (not sure how they work).

My Amp is 100mm tall, so an exact fit in the top shelf, but a no-no as there is no room for ventilation. Instead I may put a false cupboard door on the middle section, or keep the middle section open - not yet decided.

Will be fitting it at the weekend once the room is finished - already looking forward to it.

Thanks for the feedback - your pics swayed my decision over other options in the end.

Re: My new "besta" set up!

Not sure my pictures do them justice really, even in my poorly decorated room they look really good!

Be sure to put pics up of your set up! love to see it once u have completed it!

The push catches took me a few minutes to work out..you fit them so they just stick out..will make sense once you see it!

Sam
