Hi folks,
After recently deciding to do up my lounge, I started thinking about introducing surround sound, and was on the verge of buying an all-in-one system when I stumbled upon AVForums and started reading up on separates.
I spent a good few weeks researching (mainly on this forum!) and a ended up taking a trip to Richer Sounds to listen to some Amp and Speaker combinations.
So, a couple of months (and lots of trips to IKEA) later, this is what my lounge setup currently looks like:
I currently have: Sharp Aquos LC-32WD1E, Mordaunt Short Alumni 5.1 package, Onkyo 507, Sony BDPS360 Bluray, PS3, Wii, V+ Box, and a Griffin Tunecenter. I also picked up a Harmony One, and a Varilight Dimmer for the room's lights.
I'm happy with the picture quality of the TV, but would like to upgrade to a larger screensize fairly soon. The speakers and amp I'm really happy with, and have massively enjoyed the soundtracks on the movies we've been watching recently. The Tunecenter I was a little worried about - I really wanted an iPod dock with a nice graphical interface and everything current seemed really expensive. Some of the old reviews said the Tunecenter had poor sound quality, but I thought I'd risk picking one up from eBay for cheap - and I have to say it's a really nice little device. My only gripes with it are the lack of power indicator light and the poor remote - but the harmony one (which is awesome!) sorts this out. I also really like the fact I can control the Varilight with the Harmony. The Sony 360 is a nice unit, the only problems I have had there are that sometimes when playing a DVD (as opposed to BD) the display will go a nasty green colour - it sorts itself if you turn it off and on again though.
So that's my current budget set up, like I say the first thing I'd like to upgrade is the TV. After that, it may well be a turntable as my GF has a lot of vinyl and decks in her spare room but nothing downstairs for if we have guests ... I'll keep you posted on progress!
