my 7.1 garage conversion

Hi, I recently got an extension done on the house and was able to convince the wife we needed a dedicated cinema room. I was completly new to this and had never even had a set of speakers before. i done a bit of research on this and other websites and this is what I came up with. Excuse the black bags on the windows, the new blinds havent arrived yet. Thet might notlook very pretty but they are effective

Re: my 7.1 garage conversion

You don't have to take more photos just resize them in a photo program, I think you might even be able to do it in paint! I think about 600/800 pixels wide should do

Nice conversion job mate. Wish I had a garage or a loft to convert. One day maybe, one day!

A few more pictures, I was a bit restricted in that the room is about 18ft long but only 10ft wide, thus 2 chairs across is really the max. I really wanted to get one of the cineama style sofas but it simply wouldnt fit. maybe someday I will be able to afford the fancy home cinema seats. I also have 2 young boys so floorstanders were out, everything had to be wall mounted out of the way. I have even had to hide the sub under the table between the 2 chairs as the youngest (18months) kept on climbing on it!

Re: my 7.1 garage conversion

Great conversion you've done there! It looks fantastic. I do like your blackout blind too

Also, are you not slightly concerned that your 2 sons might rip open your original Star Wars figures? Imagine that? lol

Looks good! What's the kit? Looks like an Optoma pj, Denon 2809 amp, 2500 bluray or thereabouts?

No the figures are safe, they are sealed inside acrilyic cases and cant be removed. The other 50 carded figures in my collection are safely in the attic out of the reach destructive hands

kit list as follows, sorry I really should have put this in earlier.
Infocus In81, denon 1910, denon 2500bt, sky HD, PS3, monitor audio radius Hd 225 x 3 ( fronts and centre), 4 x HD 90's ( for sides and rears) Radius HD 370 sub, a DRH fixed screen (234x 132), varilight remote dimmer switch for fun and finally a logitech harmoney remote, (I think it is a One, it has a touch screen).
I think thats everything

Re: my 7.1 garage conversion

Very nice indeed.

I am looking to do exactly the same thing - I have just bought a house with a tandem double garage and I am going to convert the far end into a home cinema room. The dimensions are roughly the same as yours, can I ask (or could you PM me if you don't want to post it) how much that all cost and did you do the work yourself or get a dedicated installer in?

Also where did you the the Darth Vader/Stormtrooper picture?

I cant really give you a price for all the building work as this was part of a bigger extension on the rest of the house. I got a local installer in bangor NI, called DVV cabling to do all the installation. He was a really good guy and charged me about £500-£600 for all the installation, including cabling, tracking walls etc. Tha actual equipment cost about approx £5000 including chairs and carpets. You could do the installation yourself if you had time and the right tools. I unfortunately had neither the time or the knowledge.
The star wars pic is of amazon, i think it was about £60. search for star wars canvas and it should come up.
good luck with your project.
Barry
