first timers club.

Having been into the Av scene for a while now, I have taken a recent plunge into purchasing a few items, with a view of buying quite a bit more when funds allow. I have just completed my 6th month of non gambling, something that nearly finished me off (anyway enough of that, just a little insight into what I am about).

I have decided to post pics of the start of everything and what I would like out of this if possible is some advice, comments, suggestions on anything that I could possible do to make my dream a reality.

The pics start from just over 3 months ago when we moved into our new home, there were just two rooms that weren't decorated in pink so my first job was to redecorate every room.

I decided that before i start my project I would get the eldest's bedroom and our bedroom kitted with a few items for the time being just to make them livable.

I hope the pictures come out ok and i'll give a brief description with every pic.

any help would be appreciated, Many thanks. Woody.

This is a pic of the eldest's room, had to fill most of the wall due to cracking.

pic after i had decorated and added a Samsung 32inch tv, PS3, Xbox 360 and acer laptop, Xrocker chair, I also put some blue neon lights behind the tv and they do look great, looking to put amp and speakers in there (amp already purchased, an old denon one from my younger days but it should do the trick)

our bedroom before decorating, although there's not much change with wall colour, again wall cracking was very visable though so a quick tidy up and a Samsung 32 inch tv with sky +, next on the list, sky HD upgrade and I think that will do it.

after decorating, wires don't look like that now may I just add, everything tucked away nicely.

this is were i'm planning the whole av thing.

and one more view for you.

here's a pic of the seats that will be viewing the av kit once completed. the wall either side of the curtain was were I was planning to put Monitor Audio radius R45 speakers, any suggestions on this?

my tv which took about a month on deciding about the best one to buy on my budget.

My shopping list for the Lounge consists of:

Pioneer BDP 51 FD Blu ray
Pioneer DVR LX60D HD recorder.
Monitor Radius R45 Speakers.
Xbox 360 elite or PS3 gaming machine.

My father will be making the av rack for me, so if anyone has any suggestions that it would be great to hear from them.

many thanks for viewing.

Re: first timers club.

It might just look like i have shown just pics of the front room but i wanted to do this so you have a rough idea on the layout just in case anyone has some fancy ideas for me. I was thinking that the sub could go behind the settee's, is this the best place for one or should it be some where else.

with regards to the speakers, i am only considering wall speakers hence the choice i have stated as i have a round child and I can only see accidents arising from floorstanders.

Re: first timers club.

Nice setup dude. Though, having the PS3 upside down may not be too good for it...

Re: first timers club.

I must admit that the PS3 has been turned round to the right way up, I had this pointed out to me a few weeks ago and have since sorted that out, thanks anyway. As for the xrocker chair, the boy loves it. he's always in it with the speakers out of the back gives him a short time surround sound option whilst I build on things.

Many thanks.

Re: first timers club.

Great pics and good explaination of what planning to do. The location of the R45s sounds fine. You could mount them just above ear level on the walls or even up close to the ceiling pointing just above head height.
Be great to see more pics as the project progresses. I think I would have been tempted to remove all that brick work from under the TV etc.

Re: first timers club.

Thanks for your comments PSM. I must admit, although the brick work is probably nor to everyone's taste it's something that the good lady and I quite like. I'm hoping with the plans I have in mind that it should enhance things once every thing is in place. Although there's not much available space between the brick work and the tv i'm hoping that with what I have in mind things should slot in nicely, the basis of the av rack is quite a simple design to be fair, I gave measurements to my father and he said to leave things up to him. Fingers crossed.

But having said that, i'm not the best at coming up with good ideas, so we'll see how things go.

Things have been a bit quiet within the last few weeks on the project side of things, but the wood has been ordered just awaiting delivery, hoping that the colour ordered goes with the colour already in place if not adjustments will have to be done.

I'm hoping that in this month, funds will allow me the Speakers and also Blu Ray player. but i'm sure that they'll be an unexpected bill or a hundred. lol.

thanks again.

Re: first timers club.

Hi,

I wasn't sure whether to get rid of my brick work or not. In the end I did and I'm pleased I did. Yours doesn't look too bad though, mine did!

Here's some inspiration for you - let me know what you think. http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-...akers-etc.html

Re: first timers club.

Thanks.

It's an awkward shaped room you have there from a home cinema point of view. Not sure where I'd start! Why did you decide to not have the TV above the fireplace? Might be easier to have it there in terms of the speakers.

IT's going to be difficult to position centre, left and rights in it's current location. Are you having an AV rack under where the TV currently is, on top of the mantle? I would be interested in seeing this finished.

Best of luck.

Dan

Re: first timers club.

Hi Dan. I did want to put the tv above the fireplace, but due to the fireplace being a active one and that the wife has always wanted a fireplace i decided that i wouldn't pursue it. (if you know what i mean).

Yes, the AV rack is going straight in to the gap below the tv, the centre speaker will fit in between the gap that is left. I had hoped that the speakers will fit either side of the tele. (Tv will move along on the bracket) and with the wall behind the sofa, I was hoping to mount the other two speakers there so It would be set up correctly. I have decided to have small speakerrs due to young children and wandering hands, Have decided to go for the Monitor Audio Raduis R45 as they have recived good reviews and offer me the small size that i am after.

I must admit though as a front room, it's lovely, with the colours, the furniture, fireplace and even the brick work if i'm honest, but as a cinema setup it does have it's disavantages. But i'm stuck with that, I wish I had time and money available to sort that aspect out, but i'm just going to try and do the best with what I have.

thanks again for your comment.
