Listening station

Posh name for PC

The whole lot, on the right is a Yamaha CD player (top) and a Yamaha Mini disk deck (bottom) which I am currently using as a DAC for PC playback, and a pre-amp for connecting my iPod and CDP to the amp aswell as the PC.

HD600 on stand

Millet Hybrid MiniMAXED [headphone amp]

The tubes on the amp at night

I also have my speakers [Tannoy M3] over to my left connected to my PS3 and TV, I'll get some pics soon.

PC Specs;

E6300 @ 3.2GHz
8800GTS 512MB [G92]
4GB Crucial Ballistix
Gigabyte DS4
X-Fi XtremeMusic
Windows XP

And before anyone says it, yes I know I need a new monitor!

Re: Listening station

Very nice, I'm in the market for a headphone amp myself, how does the MiniMax amp sound with the Sennheisers?

Aside from the monitor have you got anything else to updgrade - perhaps a dedicated DAC? I've heard good things about the Audio GD Compass DAC: н¨ÍøÒ³ 1

You can't beat that lovely warm glow of tubes, especially when you're having a relaxing nighttime listening session!

Re: Listening station

That headphone amp looks really special. Just had a look at their website and I'm assuming you got the parts in a kit and hand built it yourself am I right? If so, good work! Must sound awesome!

Sam

ps had one more look at the website. Theres a whole scene for these headphone amps, customised cases, knobs the lot! So yours must a 'one off'?

I got it for Christmas, I think the parents found it on eBay.

The amp sounds fantastic, I had being using the HD600 with my Marantz stereo amp before the MiniMAX arrived and the difference is quite huge, the MiniMAX just offers so much more power and control, the bass is great and the soundstage is enormous!

A DAC is on the list, the Mini disk is just a temporary measure. I've been looking at the DACMagic and VDAC and I'll be demoing them when I have the money to buy.

Yeah, the amp is a DIY one, I had someone with experience of building this particular amp (and experience of making cables etc) build it for me as I've never soldered anything before, it wasn't much more cost wise than if I'd have done it myself as I'd have had to buy the parts from the US anyway. It would probably be fair to say it's a one off as there are so many different parts you can use (different capacitors, resistors etc) and I chose the best that I could afford which also happened to be the best available The case isn't a one off, they are made by Lansing Enclosures specifically for this DIY amp.

It doesn't bother me, I've been trying to think of things to fill it with, smarties and jelly beans are my best ideas so far!

Thanks for all of the comments
