My attempt

Having been inspired by everyone's good work, I thought I'd post my efforts.

This was prior to receiving my Monitor Audio RS6s. F4s and FC are shown here...

F4s next the RS6, quite a bit of difference in size. Sorry about the rotation, photobucket is being a pain!

Then up rock the RS6s and RS LCR in light oak. You'll notice there's an unsightly wall plate on the chimney breast. We wall mounted the TV as we wanted to move the right front and sub into the room where the tv is to create symmetry in sound but it looked horrid and TV was far too dominating in the room. And it sounded better where it is now....phew (The girlfriend was right when she said it looked wrong!).

Rears:

Just love my RS!

Not sure what Dwight Yorke is doing there...

Soon to be installing a door here to help keep the room warm. Will be interesting to see if there is any increase in SPL when the door is shut as I'm sure that archway will be contributing to 'bass suck out'...we shall see! You'll probably also spot the black bracket at the top of the picture, that we where I used to have a pair of mission rear effect speakers as fronts! How things have moved on in 12 months!

Nice set up. I have mine in a corner similar to yours. Wife would not let me mount our TV on the fireplace, and I think its a good choice not to. In a small room which doubles as a living room, they can be too dominating!

Thanks!

That's exactly what happened here...it's a good job we have a friend who can plaster!! Norfolk red brick that's over 100 years old is a little crumbly so we had to use more than the 4 standard screws and raw plugs, filling and repainting won't cut it so we're going to get it freshly skimmed.

Thanks for your comments Markiedee.

The rears sound wonderfully balanced with the fronts. I used to have a bit of a mismatched system prior to upgrading my speakers. It's now become apparent that when fellow members suggested that to get the best tonal match in sound it is best to stick with the same manufacturer. I wasn't sure that this would be true but it is now evident.

The sound stage is very well balanced and especially DD & True HD soundtracks have a much greater presence and the drama is much more intense.

I did have to play around for a while with the sub crossover (settled at 80hz) and levels of the rears though as they are quite near to the listening position.

I cannot fault the MAs, the build quality is simply stunning.

hi zorba,

good to see your setup on here , very nice

those monitor audios look fantastic , i dread to think how much they cost you

your right about the tv over the fireplace , it definitely looks better where it is.I bet you wish you never attempted to mount it now.

didnt realise u had a monolith at first , i thought it was a piece of furniture cause its an absolute BEAST OF A SUB! , it must sound fantastic when you crank it up. I was thinking of maybe getting a bigger sub now im back in work how do u rate it and what did u have before?

and as for that sofa it makes me sleepy just looking at it Bet you've fell asleep on that a few times!

all the best mate

Thanks for your kind comments! I must confess to finding myself looking at the clock on the chimney breast at 3am thinking that i must have dozed off!!

The monolith is an absolute beast, I upgraded from a Yamaha YST-FSW100 (£100 job) and the difference is just night and a few weeks difference let alone night and day!!!

For movie watching it's just incredible and I don't even have it located in the best place in my room (other half won't allow it) but regardless, it still sounds superbly deep, for the money I'd say go for it!

The MAs are also another fine purchase, I managed to piece the natural oak set together over the last 3 weeks whilst dealers were selling them off at silly prices. I'd say I made savings of around 40-50% on the advertised web prices. Calling around the dealers might proove fruitful for yourself!

EDIT: For music listening I switch the speakers back to large on the AVR and turn the sub off as the MA's provide such a lovely sound and detail in direct stereo mode. There's only a few tracks/albums that I listen to (namely the Bassotronics Album for one example) where I leave the sub on to provide those rumbly low frquencies. Unfortunately, my room layout can create quite a bloated bass reproduction on some tunes when the sub is on.

END EDIT:

I'll post some pictures up of the internal door once I manage to pin my gf's dad down (he's a quality carpenter) and get him to make the trip to Norwich.

...and Denon AVR-2310 or the new Yamaha AVR...

Re: My attempt

Just thought I'd post some pics as it's been a while!

New Yammy RX-V3900!!!! And TV bracket is off the wall, just needs painting (as seen in the first picture. The glass tv stand is going to be replaced with 4 wooden shelves in the alcove and stained to match the oak finish of the Monitor Audio RS and Monolith. My girlfriends dad is going to put the shelves up for us (3 below the tv and 1 above) as he's a carpenter .

Will post more pics soon once the shelves are up and the door in the archway between the living room and dining room is finished as it needs filling in the screw holes, rubbing down knotting, priming, and staining.

We had the amp on pretty much all day last Sunday have a lazy day at home, wathed 2 films and it was warm but not hot. Admittedly we only had it at about -35dB but even so, it was AOK

Yes, the MAs are fine examples of speakers aren't they!? I'll keep my eye out for RS LCRs in gloss black mate and will PM should i see anything

Cheers matey.

Do you have any pics?

EDIT:
Ah, I found it!

Yes, it is like mine. I envy you and the space you have for that stand, sadly the space in the recess is 96cm and the majority of stands are 110cm wide.

Not initially i didn't as the auto set flattened out the frequencies causing the sound to be quite flat. A few hours later manually adjusting all the channels by ear (by changing the parametric eq to manual from natural or flat i can't remember what the default it) it now sounds incredible and yes, i can notice that the sound it much more refined and not as harsh on the higher frequencies compared to the sony i had before.

The sound stage with all Monitor Audio speakers compared to my previous mish mash is excellent, left to right sweeps (front and rear effects) are more controlled. The processor in the Yammy is in a different league compared to the Sony 820 to be honest, but value for money the Sony is still fab!

Nice set up and excellent speakers My MA S8's are still going strong and the light oak finish is a real winner with the wife!!

Now you just need to get yourself a harmony one remote.

Going from the black ash F4s to the light oak RSs made the room feel less repressive and more open. I was lucky to get the full set before they all disappeared!

Maybe when I get around to purchasing a standalone BR player! I'm planning on having some shelves put up in place of the stand so I can bring my Yamaha CD spinner down and move the PS3 off the top of the V box as it can get quite hot down there! All in good time.

I did try them both. Once I started listening to better speakers the levels of detail were crystal clear. Your set up is very good, my advice is dont try higher end stuff as you will just have to buy it

Cheers!!

I must admit to having a flutter on them to get promotion at the beginning of this season, sadly i can't see it happening, although I'm a Barnet fan myself for all my sins.

Did you notice a huge difference? No worries of upgrading as I value my testicles (which will be removed by my fair female if I spend any more money on AV gear this side of summer).
