Trying to burn CD with wav files on it

I have some MP3s that I have converted to wav files and also to aif files so that they could be burned to a cd and played in my older cd player that doesn't recognise mp3's.

I have tried numerous times to burn this on the mac but I get errors everytime it goes to verify the disc. The disc has the files on it as they play in the mac but are not recognised on my cd player. It's like the mac isn't finalising the disc properly or something.

I have converted the mp3s to aif's and to wav's (just in case) using itunes. From there, I dragged all the converted files into a blank cd folder and hit Burn. I also tried using a Burn Folder but no different. I can burn the cd with mp3's fine.

The size of the files I want to burn does not exceed 670 mB so it should all fit onto the cd.

Does anyone have any idea?

You should be burning it as an audio CD

Re: Trying to burn CD with wav files on it

5 minutes ago I would have asked you how the hell you tell it to be an audio cd. I just discovered that if I put it in a playlist in itunes and burn it from there, I get that very option. It now works.

The Mac is so good at performing tasks but I feel there should be more help in explaining some things. All I could find was how to burn a cd and I assumed it would know that it was an audio cd.

thanks

Re: Trying to burn CD with wav files on it

Sorry, my answer was less than helpful. Wav is just a wrapper around PCM files for use and storage on PCs. Your CD player will not be able to read wav. That is why you need to burn a CD-R as an audio CD

Was it the Help in iTunes you read? An alternative I use is the freeware Burn find it on Sourceforge. Drag the files on and choose "Audio".

Here it is Burn

Re: Trying to burn CD with wav files on it

Thanks for the link. I was originally looking in the Help section of Finder. I accidentally looked in the itunes Help section in the end and got the answer there. It's all so easy when you now how.

I have a copy of Toast on CD that I have yet to install - is that another good programme?

Re: Trying to burn CD with wav files on it

Toast is a good programme indeed...But it sounds like you fell in that old windows trap where you try to use multiple tools to do a simple things...As you have discovered when you create your playlist in itunes and then use the burn disc button it offers you the choice what kind of CD to make. You don't even need to convert the files first....Very simple and totally integrated, that's the Mac way ;-)

Re: Trying to burn CD with wav files on it

Couldn't have put it better myself. I have just loaded all my pics onto iPhoto after leaving them in Finder for the first few weeks. Once I worked out just how good iPhoto is - I can't get over the fact that I never have to leave the programme to organise, edit, email, and do just about any basic enhancement I want.
