Thanks: Gave 9, Got 6 | Monitor for MacBook Aluminium and PS3
Hi all,
I have just started at Uni and was needing a Monitor to stop me slouching looking at my teeny 13.3" MacBook screen, I have the new MacBooks that were launched 2 weeks ago so I can support a resolution of 1920x1200. Now I would go for a Standard Apple 24" display but I also want to run my PS3 through the Monitor preferably through either HDMI or DVI. So if anyone has an Suggestions of a good 24" Monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200 and a half decent contrast Ratio I'll be happy to have a look :D

If you have the funds to get an apple one then go with them. they make the cinema HD displays that are the best monitors i have ever seen (the most expensive too though @ £600 for the 23" ), although i can't comment on the brand new ones as i have never seen one.
Failing that get something like THIS 24"dell , Full HD with enough ports to have your ps3 and mac set up at the same time (DVI/HDMI/VGA) but you lose 120 vertical pixels as it s 16:9 not :10. That would be a budget 24" option that gets good write ups from reviewers and buyers alike.
or something like THIS BenQ 16:10 DVI/HDMI/VGA, 4000:1 contrast, 2ms response.
Really just depends on your budget/ what your going to be doing with it. just because your MB can support that res doesn't mean that you have to go all the way up to it but if you are going to have your ps3 on there as well it would be a bonus to have full HD

Many thanks for the reply,
The Dell Monitor looks very nice indeed and at the price I can't really complain either.
I have used the new LED 24" Display (I work in the Apple store in Leicester) and think it looks good, but I can't run anything through it like my PS3 which whilst at Uni is also my Digital TV tuner and PVR with the Sony PlayTV, Also for the £600 price tag I could pick up a much better Monitor in all honesty, Sure it won't look as slick as the apple one with intergrated iSight but I honestly don't need that.

Would it be ok if i PM'd you with a couple of questions tommorrow. Nothing dodgy its just that i have been having a few issues with my MBP and when i went to get them seen to i basically got shunned off and laughed at. i want to know where i should go next. Its ok if you don't want too just let me know !

I bought a samsung T220HD which is a 22" widescreen monitor (1680x1050), with DVI, VGA and HDMI inputs, along with component, so you can connect your computer and games consoles (I connected a sky+ box). Plus it has a freeview tuner built in, and speakers.
perfect for my needs, which was a TV for the spare room, that could double up as a monitor for my macbook
they also do a 26", 1920x1200 version, but that was too big for my room.

Bare in mind that any display used with a PS3 will have to be HDCP compatible. I would imagine that most if not all of them are these days but I suspect that there still may be some especially budget ones that aren't.

When buying a monitor, it is important to consider the panel type
I had a budget and bought a Samsung 215TW. Discontinued model then when buying and now, but very much in my mind it was not using a cheaper TN panel
The DVI input is also HDCP compatible so it has resale value
