How does Boot Camp delete a partition?

I've just used Boot Camp to delete the 40GB Windows partition on my MacBook. It did it in about 5 seconds. It took longer for me to delete 15GB of videos. How does it do this so quickly?

It doesn't delete data, just the partition mapping that points to the drive. In theory you can still see the data on the partition if you have the right software.
The space used for the partition is then added back into the main partition that OS X is on.

Re: How does Boot Camp delete a partition?

I thought it might be something like that. Would that cause any problems if you wanted to create a new, larger Windows partition?
