Re: Usain Bolt

Yep as we all said last year in Beijing sub 9.5 is well within his reach...then it's not long before you start getting into how fast the human body can physically go..he's moved the record on a generation or two in a year.

Athletics was desperate for a Bolt...he's a Mike Tyson/Lance Armstrong figure that will pretty much carry the sport.

Indeed, watching the re-run now he definitely eased up in the last few strides or so - he was watching the clock.

Usain Bolt

Just watched the 100m final and just wondered how fast he can he actually go? He just seems to be light years ahead of everyone else and seems to do it all with such ease. If anyone missed it earlier it was a 9.58 world record, stunning.

9.58

I have just seen it with my own eyes; sitting just shy of the 100m finish line in Berlin.

Unbelievable.

Re: Usain Bolt

He certainly is. Plenty more in the tank too but at +$1 million each time he breaks it, it's time to page out of Isinbayeva's book and do it in tiny increments.

Re: 9.58

He is just completely amazing. Very envious of you seeing it first hand.

The Beeb just showed the reaction of their commentary team when he did it, and Michael Johnson was rendered completely speechless.

Anyone betting against him doing 9.5 in or before 2012?

I've not noticed that really. But anyway, if I was the fastest man on earth then I'd be blowing my own trumpet too.

Re: Usain Bolt

I reckon most of the photographers who swarmed him once he'd broken the record would have pushed Powell & Gay for a medal had they started off the blocks.

Just watch how quick they came after him !

That's easy in pole vault because you just raise the bar 1cm each time and even if you clear it by 3ft the records where the bar is. Pretty much impossivle in 100m where you are talking about 10's of seconds while running at 40kmh.

Nah Carl Lewis has that tied up...even as a 9 year old you couldn't stop me bouncing around the room when Mike Powell beat him in Tokyo

Bolt is the ultimate box office, and I think extremely likable, his acting up though only works because he is THAT good.

Re: Usain Bolt

I did not blink watching the final and I nearly missed it as history being made before my eyes was just so incredible, impossible, amazing... lost for words

A big-up to Tyson Gay for running 9.71. An incredible time. But that man is redefining the sport

He ran harder, faster and stronger. Best start he has had all week. At the end he could not resist another look across the line. He is only 22. He will get better as past greats set their marks at an older age. Imagine what he can do

Re: Usain Bolt

If u look at this picture of Bolt crossing the line, Dwaine Chambers (Lane 1) ran 10 seconds dead which is the old mark for a top sprinter and look how far behind he is

The guy is about 20+ years ahead of his time...I think previously they'd predicted that the 100m record would get to 9.69 (his time in Beijing) in about 2030 and the ultimate was 9.45...they were already having to recalculate before tonight

Don't you find it disrespectful to the other athletes? The way he gives it the big "Woo this is already won" even before they're in the blocks?

Normally I'd totally agree, but when the runner in question can just reduce the amount of looking around, arm waving and pre-finish celebrations during the race, I'd say he can manage it fairly easily .
