LBP...why so cheap?

Play are now doing Little Big Planet for £12.99

Play.com (UK) : LittleBigPlanet : PlayStation3 - Free Delivery

Why is this game dropping in price so quickly? Haven't picked it up yet, but am tempted at this price...

Tony

It's a must buy at full price, so this is an absolute bargain. Get it.

Sony was hoping LBP would be a system seller but that did not quite happen as sales have been rather disappointing. Usually low sales lead to big discounts. That's why top-sellers like the Call of Duty games take ages to drop in price while commercial "flops" like Mirror's Edge and Prince of Persia are sold at half price after a couple of weeks.

As to why LBP didn't sell, it's a combination of 2 things I thnk. It was not very succesful in winning over the "casual" gamers from the Nintendo camp and did not do much for the "hardcore" gamers either.

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

Casual gamers are unwilling to buy a £300 console for 1 game and a lot of PS3 owners will not even try LBP because it has no killing in it, making it a childs game

I had a few people over this weekend, and no one wanted to play it because it looks too cute, and theres no killing involved.

But I got them playing it eventually, and they all loved it. People just don't give games like this a chance

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

This game is a bargin.

Its virtually an infinate game. With people making there own maps and levels, its practically unlimited!!!

I really like the online part of this game, and even managed to get the mrs on it, the 1st time shes held a console controller since I banned her from the PS1 for getting too angry with Pandamonium.

It's a sad state of affairs really. I enjoy fps games as much as the next person but I can't help but feel like the market is becoming saturated with violent titles. Innovation seen in littlebigplanet is declining rapidly.

Nintendo are doing their best to try new things and show 'casuals' that gaming can be for everyone - but recent titles like Madworld and HOTD:Overkill won't help them maintain that clean image.

There is a littlebigplanet folder at the top of this section by the way

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

Bargain! Grab it!

I agree with what's already been said about why it's dropped in price - just not as popular as it was thought it would be.

Unfortunately people think of it as a cutesy kid's game. I think it's great fun and makes a change to cooperate with people rather than trying to beat them or kill them...

Brilliant game, especially with 3 other mates going through story mode. What a laugh! There also going for next to nothing on ebay.... madness.

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

I bought it at release and still play it regularly. Have spent more hours than i care to remember on it. Have now got all the prize bubbles and aced all the levels so i am about to embark on level creation!!

If it was still full price i would not hesitate to pick it up again so for that price it is a no brainer

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

I've struggled to get into LBP myself - even though I think it's under-rated, the gameplay may be getting all the plaudits but it's also very good graphically.

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

I personally think that the game is boring. I know it sounds stupid, but i don't get the point of the game. I see it as just getting from A to B which is stupid as i like mario whick is essentially the same aim. I will definatley give it another bash but i got it in november and it has been gathering dust after an hours use since. Some of my mates feel the same but others absolutely love it. I think it is a marmite game (love it or hate it)

Please try and post in the right forum section. There is a LittleBigPlanet sub forum where this thread should have been posted. Moving thread.

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

LBP is a great game, however i believe it has been kinda abandoned. I mean where are the downoadable new leveles made by MM? For the past few weeks there hasnt even been free downloadable characters available either. it's the same old story just like with the psp

as with what catisfit it's gone Platinum. It's not a commercial flop as it's one of the most commercially advertised games out at the moment.

The reason for the crazy offer is to get ppl on their website. you see a good offer like that and you start looking for other offers. meaning 8 out of 10 ppl will buy other things too.

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

...because it didn't live up to the hype.

I thought Id be addicted to it but since getting it on release Ive hardly played it. Its not for lack of killing things, its just not as fun as I thought and pretty basic A to B jump / grab....even ancient mario games had different running speeds, crouching, rolls, types of jump etc.

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

I think it's being used a a sort of loss lead sales tactic. Sony will know how much it cost, they aren't stupid and I bet they have done their sums. I bet they want to make it cheaper along with certain other games to help solidify the Ps3 games catalogue which lets face it some people still think is below par (wrongly I would add).

If I had just bought my ps3 I could go out today and get a lot of great very good value games to play. Personally if you haven't got the time to create a level on LBP I don't think it's worth full price but the graphics and general attention to detail, style and charm of the game are awsome imo.

To see an advert on tv then find out it's only say £15 in store to buy must make you think it's worth a pop and I might be wrong in this but although it's not anything that hasn't been done before it does seperate itself from the current crowd and particularily the current competition.

Good buisness sense I think

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

Simple marketing really - you give a game a huge reduction in price and sales will dramatically increase. I was in a lecture earlier today and the lecturer gave Left4Dead as a great example. They kept reducing that (25% off, 50% off etc) and eventually when it was at 75% off sales improved 1400% (approx) and even though they where practically giving it away they made 13% more (revenue) on the game than they would if they kept selling it at full price.

Found it hard to get into it myself. Can't believe I traded in Race Driver for it in CEX. Played it the first day and haven't touched it since. May give it another go tho (that's if I don't get an invite for Burnout Paradise or GTA

Re: LBP...why so cheap?

I've hovered my mouse over "add to basket" at Play (now Amazon too) for the £12.99 price but have never actually gone through with it. I don't understand what the game is and am reluctant to buy it. If it's a platformer then great, but I'm not sure if it is? Hence i'm looking to pick up Ratchet on the cheap.
Also I remember the feature on the Gadget Show in which they heaped praise on it, but was left scratching my head after and thinking, what is that game about? They just showed us a bunch of cuddly characters and raved about the graphics and level-building My brother felt the same. I guess that's one of the problems with this game?

It is a platformer and a very very good one at that. On top of that there are gazillions of user created levels to try online and, if you're so inclined, an amazing set of tools to create your own level but first and foremost, it's a platform game. For £12.99, it's an absolute steal. Ratchet is also fantastic, buy em both
