How to restore profile data?

When I quit LBP from either the XMB or holding down the PS button for longer my PS3 always restarts and I'm taken to the main menu where you pick which profile to log into and the controller is turned off.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I can't imagine it's doing my PS3 any good crashing out like that, thought I'd ask here first before doing anything about uninstalling/reinstalling the game etc.

I had this in the beta when it required some unique networking settings (couldnt contact server), not in the full game tho.

Interesting. When I say "I" I mean my little brother, he plays LBP more than I do. His account on the PS3 isn't signed up to the PSN so I think it's an issue with the game and my ps3.

This happens very occasionally to me. I think it's something to do with exiting while it's still in the process of saving the game.

dont exit a game when the yellow hard drive light is flashing maybe?

duno if that will make a difference or not

Tried that already mate. After leaving a level and returning to pod I waited until the orange/yellow light stopped flashing and there's no loading spinning icon on the screen on the left, but it still did it.

I've just signed into my account and started up LBP so I'll see what I can find out. There's a 1.08 update so maybe that'll help.

Don't think it will, that update was purely so the God of War level kit would work with LBP.

Right I figured out the issue.

The problem didn't occur when I started up LBP from my account, only my little brothers. So I deleted his profile data, started the game from his account and I can now quit the game fine without the PS3 restarting.

BUT

Now I have a bigger problem! He's going to kick my butt when he finds out I've lost his profile data. I did backup his profile data to a USB stick before deleting it but when I copy it back and start the game up its like when you start the game from the first time, no levels unlocked, no costumes or anything.

Can anyone advise me on how to get the profile data back and save me from a beating?

ps. Mod's could you rename this thread to "How to restore profile data?" thanks.

That sounds really weird. Are you sure you're copying to the account you're playing LBP on?

Yep 100% sure its right profile data for the right ps3 account.

That is really strange. And the profile data copies back to the PS3's HDD absolutely fine?

Yeah, I copy it back fine.

The game save icon shows the costume his sackboy was wearing and the filesize is 4700kb or so. But as soon as we start the game it seems to just overwrite it.

The game save icon shows a naked sackboy now. Time to turn to Google me thinks.

Hi did you ever get a resolution to this?

I have exactly the same problem with two of the accounts on our PS3. When either of my sons exits LBP the PS3 reboots with 3 bleeps. If I exit LBP then all is fine. Both my sons play the game a lot and I haven't played it at all so it does look like a profile problem. I've applied all the latest patches by the way.

A few people seem to be reporting this on-line but I've yet to come across a solution that doesn't involve loosing all the saved game data.
