LBP too slow?

I don't like to moan about LBP, but just lately it seems to be terribly slow when initially loading, and when loading levels. So much so it's putting me off playing.

Is it just me?

Re: LBP too slow?

I thought that it had slowed down a bit..

I haven't checked myself but maybe we could install some of the game on to the hard drive?

Re: LBP too slow?

I find it very slow indeed. Loading levels and booting up, as you say.

Online is hopless for me too. Many times I boot it up and it takes me several attempts to log onto thier servers. I can't play online with folks either, just too much lag, the last week anyway.

Re: LBP too slow?

As an update it's still very slow to boot up and go online Probably just something we have to deal with until they splash out some cash on server pools

Re: LBP too slow?

For a game built around online play and 'the community' the server performance of LBP is completely ****ing atrocious. There's nothing wrong with my internet connection (10meg cable) and I can surf the net and sign into PSN fine. I can't even load community levels 90% of the time, it just gives up

Nat type 2 before you ask...

Re: LBP too slow?

I'm so good I stumbled across this thread! I tried LBP online for the first time last night, and thought it took very long to load into online levels.

Maybe someone can answer this for me also: why on god's blue and green planet did it take 1 WHOLE hour to download a 13mb update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! I love the ps3, but because I don't get too much chance to play, most times I switch it on there is an update and they take a f00kan age to download, I'm on 8mb dsl (line checks seeme to show i get 6.5 - i live about 20m from the bt exchange at the most!!) It's just very annoying, I understand updates and have no problem with them, but when a 13mb update takes an hour someone is having a laugh, if that was a file on my pc it would take less than 25 seconds!!!!!

/rant over!

I hope it changes because when I was playing levels it was a good laugh!

Re: LBP too slow?

That does sound like a very slow download Barahawk, I reinstalled several games on Friday and on Burnout Paradise there were some huge updates, over 300mb's, possibly 800mb in all, and they all took less than an hour in total.

Don't really have an answer for you but I do think sometimes downloading on PSN can be fairly speedy and over times ridiculously slow.

Re: LBP too slow?

I've noticed a few downloads have taken an absolute age on mine (granted some seem to have been quicker) but it's the ones that are ridiculously small that seem to take the longest time - strange, I'm wired straight into router too!

Re: LBP too slow?

Not sure if it helps you but I've put my PS3 in the DMZ of my router and it's really seemed to speed things up. The last LBP update took approx 1 minute on a 10 Meg connection

Re: LBP too slow?

I played LBP for the 1st time in ages the other day and it's still as laggy as it ever was. It takes ages to get a game online and then you get the fastforward rewind effect for a while. It could be such a fun game online, it just takes to long!!

Re: LBP too slow?

Bubs, you're having trouble with this AND Battlefield? Are you sure it's not your connection?

I can play LBP perfectly well, fast loading, no lag 90% of the time (depends who you get connected to I believe).

My connection isn't that great, get between 2.5 & 4 mb on an 8mb line.

Not my connection, I can play any other game OK. No idea what was wrong with Battlefield but its working again.

I don't understand why LBP is laggy, I can play 32 man SOCOM with no problems at all.

Strange then. Assume you are NAT type 2 and everything. I mostly play LBP on the weekends sat & sunday daytime (at least my lad plays it mostly then) and never have problems at that time of day. Not tried it in the evenings for ages, have you tried weekend day times?

The problem is, that due to work I mainly play during the week days, as I work most weekends and if I'm not working them, then I'm out with my Wife and baby.

I'll try it again today and see what happens (It is NAT 2 and I even put in a static IP and set it to the DMZ)

Yeh I have noticed I sometimes get errors when playing online that I can't get into a game or that I can't refresh player list, or some other random error. Sometimes its horrible, sometimes its ok. I was hosting games last night and its fine, I assume everyone else might have lagged but they were off like headless chickens usually leaving me behind. I am a bit of a noob on LBP. Sometimes it takes an age to load or load levels.

When I joined your game last night (on the second attempt, the first it errored out) it was fine though for the short time I was in there. . I tried joining some other games and got motion sickness from the lag fest that I just had to quit.

Edit: tonight some people joined my game and it was fine, others joined and I was lagged to hell and back? What's all that about?

Mike
