LBP Controls

Im just posting this regarding the controls in LBP. Anyone else having trouble controlling the sackboys with the left stick? I am finding jumping and moving very hard, esp when trying to get onto small ledges, pads etc. Other than that im really enjoying the game but its ruining it for me tbh.

Re: LBP Controls

Unfortunately that's just the nature of the beast. Once you get the hang of correcting your jumps in mid air it gets easier but it never becomes a precise platformer.

Guess that's to emulate a little person made of fabric jumping onto varying grippiness surfaces. Would have been good if when you wear trainers that you could grip better on landing but I suppose we can't have everything.

Re: LBP Controls

IMO if the controls were overly precise i think it would make the game too easy. Part of the challenge is having to try and correct a jump you have got wrong or grabbing on to something as you fall having missed a jump. I think MM had to tread a fine balance between the game being too easy and therefore a bit boring and too frustrating. I think they got it just about right. Although some bits can be a wee bit frustrating plenty of people have managed to get 100% and ace all levels.

All i would suggest is to persevere - the controls definitely become easier the more you practise which is just as well given how tricky some of the later levels are!!

Enjoy.

Re: LBP Controls

I do love this game. I have to say I take my hat off to those that have been ace-ing certain levels.
The controls are under par compared to the rest of the package imo. I think they get away with it because the sensitivity of control you need to progress is part of the enjoyment. Sometimes it feels like sackboy has got rollerskates on.
If the physics model wasn't so well developed for all the objects and obstacles and they hadn't got the feel of the weight of objects so good I think this game would have got panned for the controls.
The fact that it's a challenge is good but that doesn't mean much to my mates son who can't get any further in the game (and it's really distressing him!).
I think it should be remembered that this is supposed to be a game for all ages. I absolutely love it and have been playing it constantly since christmas but I think that the later levels in the storymode are very hard for the younger players which is a shame as they should be able to finish the game and feel good about it.

Re: LBP Controls

Can't say I like the controls myself - so much so that it's putting me off playing.

Re: LBP Controls

I think I must be the only person in the world who has no problem with jumping in LBP Although my better half who is most definitely a non-gamer didn't have too much trouble completing the game with me in co-op either

It's clearly an issue as it's a common complaint, but IMO any shooter (which requires both sticks and shoulder buttons simultaneously at the very least) is much more difficult than jumping in LBP, which a) only varies in height depending on how hard you press X, and b) has mid-air control built in.

I had a few wee issues at first but now it's second nature, my only small 'issue' is that moving between the 'planes' is occassionally unresponsive and can take some backtracking when you what to move to the one 'furthest from view'.

As was said above, the secret to the jumping is making the adjustment whilst in flight

Re: LBP Controls

If people can ace levels like the bunker then I suppose for us that can't control the little critter it's time to get practicing

Re: LBP Controls

The physics are just about spot on for everything in this game apart from Sackboy. Although despite me finding it a little tough that is exactly what makes it unique. Its a maverick game and a massive breath of fresh air to next gen consoles (and for the record XBOX owners are definitely jealous they don't have any fun platforms!) I wouldn't change it for the world......its class !
