Like my fellow AVForum members drskhaled and uzi123, I too am muslim. The lyrics do not offend me in the slightest. However, I think Sony are just playing it safe, and they should be encouraged to do the right thing even though it will hit them financially.

To me, this is like when the Spiderman movie was delayed to remove images of the World Trade buildings from the movie to avoid any possible upset.

I agree, they should be encouraged to do the right thing, which is NOT doing a worldwide recall but to ignore the complaints from the 0.001% of the people who will actually buy the game.

No offense meant mate but these days, when a Muslim says they are offended, it is taken as a direct threat to people's safety, hence the knee-jerk reaction by Sony who, for all we know, *were* literally threatened after this story broke ...

Be open to other opinions even if you don't agree, Please don't fall into the standard forum pitfalls of rolling eyes, picking up on grammatical mistakes, using your trusty caps lock and generally talking down to people through your computer. Let a conversation go off topic because it opens us all to new ideas, ways of thinking, and opinions - and I would hate to think were talking in an environment which wished to stifle that kind of conversation.

From this point on I shall discuss LBP and the repercussions from recent events in this thread, If you want to discuss this further with myself drop me a PM.

The way the thread was going it was going to get closed. It would have been a shame if a thread about the release date of the game would have been closed due to strong opinions about religious/political correctness etc. In your previous post you mentioned some of the horrors you had seen and that I would crap my pants if I heard them, so please don't try and say that I have been talking down to anyone. I've heard opinions from both sides and i'm all for open discussion. My only annoyance was that I felt the original poster to Sony was being harshly and unfairly criticised. I agree wholly that there are groups that take advantage of these kinds of scenarios, but in this case I felt the original poster was not such a person. That's all.

Likewise I don't think this needs to continue on this thread. I've said all I've wanted and I think you have too. Just looking forward to playing the game whenever it arrives.

well someone made a remark about 'whining ********' which i thought was a generalisation of the poster who alerted Sony about the Quran content. I felt this was harsh as that poster was genuinly sincere and thought it was out of line. I was hoping the comment was more about the people who take advantage of these situations and just try and cause mayhem, but I guess the wording just wasn't very clear. And some slightly heated discussion ensued. I think that's what Legion's on about anyway.

Just to be clear, I was not taking a particular position as I think there is no right or wrong. But I think we need to be careful in how we respond to each others comments, otherwise it will get locked and that would be a shame.

Discussing the reason for the delay even if it is of a religious context is fine but please can we refrain from arguing, bickering and any kind of personal attacks or accusations. I don't think there has been any confirmation, but apparantly there were rumours that the UK release would be 31st October....

I've just been listening to that song on Youtube - quite a nice tune actually, it's a shame that there's all this fuss about it. I think I would have liked to have listened to that a lot more.

I'm still having problems understanding what the issue is here... If the song contains offensive lyrics then how come it was originally published (and won awards) back in 2006 without any controversy? Also, how come Youtube are allowing people to listen to it if it's such a problem?

If it's just that the song has been used in a videogame then I thought that the fact it's LBP would actually be a positive thing.

He didn't really break the game.

And also, I don't think it's an "extremist" who pointed out the song. Although I see no problem with the song, I wouldn't call someone who did an "extremist" as that's a very strong word. I know moderate muslims who would have a problem with the use of the song.

With regard to the song, yes in a sense it is the artist who should have not published the song, but he felt he was right to do so, so whatever good for him. I personally don't think anyone is totally at fault. I hope it does get released on the 31st, if not oh well, I'll wait till the 14 of Nov.
