LOL na serious can someone please tell me the REAL reason why it got delayed? was there some major bug issues with the game? or are they trying to come up with a way to ban people from making levels like that 911 one?

I have a work collegue who is strongly Christian and during a conversation I had with him a while ago it transpired that he believed you could only be a good person if you worshiped God. So, as a non-believer he was effectively saying I wasn't
Well your colleague isn't a true Christian. He may believe that he is but he's not following Christian thinking by basically condemning you in silence for your own beliefs, or lack of.
Too many people believe that they are strongly religious when they are actually the most bigoted and narrow minded people that could be encountered. It's a sad fact that they're the ones that are heard time and time.

I'm not religious, however I respect the views of other people.

Back on topic now. As far as LBP being recalled goes I reckon Sony have gone for the recall to catch all the copies of the game that wouldn't have been used online.

I'm, with you on that except I don't respect religions that try to force themselves on you, but that could apply to all extreme religious groups, not just the Muslim faith.

If it keeps the peace and prevents great offence to some people then a few weeks delay is no big deal. Sony should have caught this earlier. I'll still be getting the game

re: Release Date Changed (Wed Nov 5th ?)

Hmm all this reminds me of walking around a Spanish supermarket a few years ago with my then future Father in law.

Their choice of background inoffensive muzak was Livin' next door to alice by Smoky... The version with Roy chubby Brown going "Alice... Alice who the F*** is Alice"

If you don't know what is being said it doesn't offend, but if you do...

It's a good sensible move by Sony, I must admit I was thinking that next Friday actually looks like quite a busy release day, so it could work out to their advantage.

The really weird thing is the first person to reply to the person raising the issue on the cached thread is one of my mates...

Oh my lord. I just saw those comments on IGN. They are so insulting. I suggest that if you are a Muslim (like me) you don't look at them.

re: Release Date Changed (Wed Nov 5th ?)

It is important to note that this was not bought up by some Muslim organisation or pressure but by an individual on the official Sony forums. Sony then decided that they wanted to take this course of action, reading the comments on other forums, particularly IGN it appears that people believe that this was because of some mass protest by Muslims.

The religions don't force anything onto anyone, that's done by the extremist minorities that damage the general opinion of everyone that shares their faith.

As with everything, it's unfortunate that the loudest and most extreme are alays heard clearest.

Edit: of course that's got nothing to do with LBP being delayed, as said by others it's a case of Sony reacting to a request from someone that brought the problem to their attention.

It's nice to see that some people agree with Sony and accept that it was at the request of an individual on the official forums that Sony have acted to delay the game. That's what annoyed me when some people started saying that certain religious groups mess things up for everyone and calling them whining b*******...how is that even related to this story?!? Like I said the guy was very gentle and sincere in the message to Sony and they've done the right thing. No one is to blame in this whole situation, something has innocently slipped past that was very hard to spot and it's being dealt with. End of Now onto more important things, why did Gamespot only give this a 9?????????????????

re: Release Date Changed (Wed Nov 5th ?)

I read all 11 pages of this thread and seriously i dont get what the problem is:

I mean Sony didnt invent the song themselves, all they did was use a song that has already been released. So if the song is available to buy on Amazon then why cat it be available on the game? If these few fanatics get offended by the song thenthey dont buy the cd and if that is the case then they shouldnt buy the game either.

I hate the world we live in today, a world in which people are scared to say anything about the muslim religion because they fear that it may be taken the wrong way and a small bunch of extremists may be offended.

I am sure that the followers of the christian faith may be offended when comedians take the mick out of god and jesus but i have never heard of any of them complaining and demonstrating.

***, when my girlfriend goes to some muslim countries and she HAS to wear the scarf on her head she is offended and she doesnt like it but there's nowhere to complain about it. Over here though when some one gets offended we go and change the whole bloody constitution.

IMO the song should have been kept in the game and if these uys who are offended by it have a problem then they can arue the problem with the artist who made the song and not with Sony. And if they did that and the artist decided to stop releasig the song then Sony could release a patch to cancel the song from the game.

This is political correctness (i call it stupidity) gone too far.

Is it lonely up there, on your pedestal?

youve added nothing to the conversation except belittling people. grow up in country where you constantly dealt with racism, xenophobia, and segregation - then come give a well informed opinion. il tell you stories that will make you crap your politically correct trousers. The thread became about a bigger issue than the original post and was more a look at how we in the western world dealt with religious situations, One that I thought actually offered an interesting look at peoples opinions, we even had a couple of Muslims chip in their opinion and to have a discussion like that really is quite exciting. why you had to keep take the conversation back a couple of hours, and focusing on one point im really not sure.

Nobody said it was wrong for sony to pull the game, although free speech is a beautiful thing and it allows to converse and discuss and question everything that goes on around us. In this instance how far our political correctness can go and where do we draw the line, It appears that some people are afraid to get into a discussion peoples religion, or the colour of a persons skin and I find that very disheartening.

I didnt mention any religious groups in my comment, i just refered to him as a whining barsteward.

I still fail to see why Sony should be bothered about it.

Sony didnt write the song, they simply purchased the rights to use the song in the game. If these people on this "Hardcore Muslim Gamer" forums (did he provide a link to said forum so we could see the "outcry" for ourselfs?) have an issue with the lyrics in the song, they need to whine at the person who wrote the song.

I guess its easier to get a large corporation who dont want their reputation tarnished to change something rather than asking the one person to change it who could very well just tell them to run and jump.

re: Release Date Changed (Wed Nov 5th ?)

When my wife and I went to Rome we visited the Vatican, not for religious reasons but because we appreciate the architecture, design and sights. When we got there we were refused admission to St. Peter's Basilica because I was wearing a vest and shorts. We went back the next day with appropriate clothes and got in no problem. At other places in Greece and Italy we had to remove our shoes prior to entering.

Did I take offense at having to go back the next day ?
Of course not, those were the rules and we were happy to respect them. If we went to a Muslim country and my wife had to wear a head scarf then so be it.

The problem these days is a lack of respect for others. I don't need to agree with what someone thinks to respect their opinion and although I'm not a Muslim I can see why this could cause offense. The removal of this song doesn't materially affect the enjoyment of the game in any fashion at all, and means we can have more time with all the other games coming out around now

Oh boy! I was looking forward to getting this game, never mind, I will just have to play WIPEOUT HD a bit more instead!

Like my fellow AVForum members drskhaled and uzi123, I too am muslim. The lyrics do not offend me in the slightest. However, I think Sony are just playing it safe, and they should be encouraged to do the right thing even though it will hit them financially.

To me, this is like when the Spiderman movie was delayed to remove images of the World Trade buildings from the movie to avoid any possible upset.

Wow you get offended easily don't you! Getting all defensive now. Now you're playing the 'ive seen so much more than you, and therefore you know nothing' card. Well if that makes you feel better go for it. Obviously you don't know who I am or anything about me, and I don't know what pedestal you're talking about And I kept bringing the point up about LBP probably because this is the LBP FORUM!!!! You know keeping ON TOPIC may have had something to do with it!! And evidently a number of people don't agree with Sony delaying the game so i'm not sure what you're talking about. You're not the only person in this thread.

You said in your post 'a few' and 'these whiny...' so you were not referring to one individual. Like I said, it may have not been your intention but it did kinda sound like you were pointing to a whole group. And if you read his post he wasn't whiney at all. His request was perfectly reasonable and he put it in a genuinly nice and sincere way to Sony. There was nothing threatening or untoward in his request and therefore I felt the remark towards him was uncalled for. Do you get what I mean Hulligan? My initial post wasn't an attack on you but just letting you know that your post could have seemed insensitive and taken out of context insulting.

I agree 100%!! Lack of respect and tolerance is really damaging society. If we all accepted that everyone has their own religion/culture (especially in the UK) then life would be much smoother.

re: Release Date Changed (Wed Nov 5th ?)

i think the real problem here is the extent to which political correctness is influencing everything. We have had a couple of comments on here by perfectly reasonable people speaking from the muslim point of view saying that this is no biggie for them.

There is a constant and increasing fear spreading that something will offend some group or other so it best be changed without anyone actually sitting down rationally and deciding if in fact change is needed.

The problem seems to me to be that there is a perception rightly or wrongly that some groups in society get greater protection than others - to paraphrase George Orwell - all religions are equal - some are just more equal than others.

Whether this particular example goes over the score is debateable but i guess it just goes to show that you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you certainly cannot please all of the people all of the time!

re: Release Date Changed (Wed Nov 5th ?)

Oh dear.. what a upset.. guess I will have to wait....... they have been really putting the TV adverts out.. tons on 4Music tonight, all showing the 24th as the release date.... this is going to cost Sony alot of £££. What a PR disaster.

I feel Sony have done the right thing.... all they have to do is give a free sackboy doll as a sorry gesture.

Im really looking forward to this title... hope I enjoy it.

Media Molecule comments on LittleBigPlanet delay, new dates revealed

Posted Oct 17th 2008 2:15PM by Jem Alexander

Media Molecule has made a statement regarding the disappointing LittleBigPlanet delay. It’s clear they’re gutted about the situation (as are we), but overall the blog post remains upbeat. Apparently a patch and an updated master disc was ready less than 12 hours after the offensive material was discovered. This patch is ready to go the second the game is launched and will somehow fix the problem (we suspect it will just replace the music in question with something else — perhaps some 50 Cent would be less offensive?).

Sony has seen fit to recall the game and delay it, regardless. This is an ass-covering move to make sure that even those without internet access have nothing to complain about. Media Molecule apologises and looks forward to a time when this whole messy situation is put behind us and people are happily playing the game.

Update 1: A new PlayStation Blog post tells us that the game will now ship the week of October 27th in America.

Update 2: UK site Electronic Theatre has obtained an updated mailout which shows the UK release date as October 31st. Funnily enough this is the game’s original release date in the region, before it got pulled forward a week. Funny how things work out, isn’t it?

One week is the new end of the world.

Sony did the right move. The lyrics didnt really belong with the game anyway given they were about death. So no artistic vision being blocked, as some are suggesting. LBP is about fun and happiness.

31st is good for me. I wont be distracted during afew important days which will give me time to create.

Actually I think this has the core of a pretty decent and valuable discussion here. In the very complex and unstable times we live in, the discussion about what is and is not suitable for inclusion in games is a pretty useful one and apart from a couple of the unfortunate remarks that have been made the topic has been an interesting one. I think the fact that it centres around one of the most hyped games of the year increases its importance.

Only when ACTUAL bad things happen to us do we realise so much of the other stuff we worry about is meaningless and a waste of time. Here my friends is one of them.

One week, big deal its only a game.

I don't think there has been official confirmation yet, but since Media Molecule/Sony acted so quickly hopefully it's sooner rather than later.
