A Sony w4500 review I just read though:

Sony KDL40W4500 / KDL40W4500U Review

The only difference is the 100hz, some people say they can't even see any differences between 50 and 100 hz, so I don't know if it's worth the extra ~250-300 euros...you can get decent 5.1 speakers for that price or an xbox 360 or sth more useful, you know ^^
Fair enough... I do agree with that. I have heard that people who own this tv usually set the 100 hz setting to low because it works better.

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

I have a new 37LG7000 and I can say that I have mixed feelings about it. I am mainly watching STB and if the station is broadcasting good signal the picture is fine. I don't have HD receiver nor Blue-ray to see what this TV can really do.
I have connected STB to AV1 and DVD to AV2. (Is this OK?)
DVD's from a cheap DVD player (Yamada 6700) and cheap scart cable looks good. I have connected DVD with scart cable and s-video cable. When watching through scart there is some sort of glaring or ghosting around subtitles (white on black background). Switching to s-video cable reduces this effect so I guess the cause is in cheap cable and cheap DVD player (I hope so). The same thing with divx movies. If watching divx on computer the picture is as is but the subtitles are razor sharp. Watching the same divx on TV (from DVD) and the subtitles have this glare or ghosting around.

The other thing that bothers me is some sort of shadowing or ghosting when watching images from the USB key. I have some test images with white patterns on black background and black patterns on white background. White patterns on black background looks sharp and OK, but black patterns on white background have some sort of shadows around them - it's the same as if we zoom some low res image on the computer and the edges became unsharp and with shadows. On other images (black text on white) the text is sharp but the letters have some sort of white glow around them - like there is another white glowing text in the background like shadow.
On the other hand, high res photos from USB looks sharp and colorfull.

Is there anyone else with the same issue (if this is an issue)?
Is there any way to lower backlight and contrast when watching from USB key?

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

I have not really noticed any ghosting on my set (despite really trying to see them) but what you could try is getting a digital cable (HDMI?) for your computer and plug that in to the tv. That should show you if the ghosts are due to the cable or the TV. As an added benefit you could watch 720p and 1080p movies, something I highly recommend!

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

Thanks for the reply martink78; I was thinking about pluging the computer in the TV, but I would need realy long cable.
The same ghosting on subtitles I have from STB - sometimes more and sometmes non so it must be poor broadcasting.
I have a lot to discover yet to set the TV proper so I have a lot of questions and I'm hoping to get the answer. The LG users manual are so poor.
Can both AV1 and AV2 scart connectors handle RGB signal? How can I be sure that TV is using RGB signal from AV1 or AV2 and not S-video or composite?
My friend has Panasonic plasma TV and he can chose which signal will TV take from scart.

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

hi, i have an 37lg7000, and have noticed a few problems, firstly the picture jumps when watching tv through virgin v+ box (i know its not the box as we are on the second one of those, i have also noticed the top of the pictures kind of moves down ever so slightly its really annoying and prehaps not the best explanation.

has anyone else noticed these problems?

thanks
chris

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

I'm not sure that I can help you there. I would suggest trying a calibration disc to calibrate the picture though, it really helps. There is a free one here AVS HD 709 - Blu-ray, HD DVD, & MP4 Calibration - AVS Forum
Also you might want to download the full manual from LG LG LCD TV : LG UK It's not perfect but contains a lot more detail than the paper one you get.

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

reddish75;
I have no problem with jumping or moving picture; you could try another source (DVD or computer). If the picture still jumps or move then there might be something wrong with the TV. I wouldn't jump to conclusions because and first try a few things. I found in the manuals that if picture is affected then the DVD player should be moved away from TV. A lot of things can affect the signal - for example if power cable is alined with signal cable or you have signal cable too close to loudspeakers or some other source of EM waves. It could be some other thing interfering with TV or it could be just bad cable with bad contact.

martink78;
I have downloaded users manual from LG site but I couldn't find the stuff I'm interested in. For example; scart cable can carry RGB and component signal and I'm not sure that the TV is taking RGB signal and not composite - there is no settings on TV to tell it to use RGB signal from scart. It could be automatic feature and the TV first seek for RGB if it's available and if not it takes composite, but I'm not sure.
By the way, thanks for the link. Damn, I must get myself Bluray.

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

i wouldnt think it is any of these problems, if i was to hazard a guess to the main culprit on these sets i would say is the power supply, (i used to work in martin dawes service department many years ago) and no matter how many boards and how many times they are replaced they will always fail, if this is of course the case.

just out of interest how many people actually switch these sets off at the wall when not in use?

thanks

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

Hi !
When I was talking before about ghosting eround subtitles I ment this - see attached photo. This is Discovery Channel-STB SD.
I don't know is this is due to bad signal, poor cable from STB to TV or just TV fault.
Anyone with the same effect?

It's the Tv's fault...unfortunately, only "pc" label has crystal clear picture....everything else gives poor quality image...

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

Thanks for reply Tuko;
I was thinking that input labeling is just cosmetic to put nice pictures on inputs, but according to your statement labeling apparently affect the inputs. There is no explanation in mauals besides how to label the inputs.

Re: Official LG 32/37/42/47/52 LG7000 Thread

The thing is, it SHOULD be cosmetic...this TV's picture can be found next to the words "faulty" and "rubbish" in modern dictionaries...

If you spend some time reading about its problems posted in this forum you might agree too...

On my set I can get this effect on the antenna/SD broadcasts but I don't get it when playing HD stuff off my PS3.
My suggestion would be to try a proper HD source and see if you like the picture. You might also want to try to lower the shapness setting as setting it to high will introduce various similar effects.
