LG GT505 Transferring downloaded videos

I have tried transferring downloaded videos from the internet to my GT505, but no suggess. Have tried mp4, Divx, swf (prob not suitable for hour long!) , but no success. Can anyone recommend a decent free video converter or advise how I can get this to work. The phone is suppose to support DivX and Xvid - but no luck for me !
