LG Arena on Orange confusion

hi

just got this as an upgrade, and im slowly getting used to it, but am a little confused about a few things. firstly, the browser. i read that opera mini is the way to go, but for some reason it wont allow me to access the download page in t'internet. not with my wi-fi anyway. and then i read a list of phones that were compatible with opera, and this wasnt one of them. which surprises me as i thought it was a 'bells and whistles' phone :-/

also the orange maps. i was expecting google maps, but again, looks like orange have replaced it for some reason. and again, if i try to access it on wi-fi, it says its installing and may take a few minutes, but then bombs out and says installation failed.

does anyone have any answers to these problems? a way to get round them? would i need to get the phone debranded and then instal stuff? cant really do that til ive decided to stick with the phone tho.

i also read on the web about APPS and how LG dont support them as theyre not smartphones or something. again, that confuses me (i dont really understand the difference between smartphone, symbian, windows, android etc etc). is this why i cant get opera or google maps? are they classed as APPS?

i like the looks of the phone, its about perfect in that respect, but would i be better sticking with nokia if i want a decent browser, maps etc?

thanks to anyone who can put me in the picture :-)

Re: LG Arena on Orange confusion

Don't have the same phone but mine (an LG GT505 on orange) had an issue with WiFi.
Basically when it had Orange firmware the WiFi was't true stand-alone WiFi but was merely used as another way to access the Orange network - with all the relevant charges! (You think you're on true WiFi but you're actually being charged by Orange).
I flashed the phone to OEM firmware with the help of some very helpful people on this forum and now I have true WiFi - and also a faster phone with better battery life and (I might add) Google maps.
As I said I don't have your phone but this might be worth investigating.
The thread in question on this forum is:

Hope this is useful.
