Re: The Official LG LH5000 LCD Thread

I read that review not long ago, it seems LG have really pulled 200Hz out of the bag and it's in some ways better (some ways worse too of course) than the Sony Z4500, which really is something significant considering how much cheaper it is!

Re: The Official LG LH5000 LCD Thread

This topic seems a bit abandoned these last few weeks...
I was wondering if there are people that own this television already and are willing to share their impressions. That would be great.

Re: The Official LG LH5000 LCD Thread

Hi all!
I'm new to AVForums.com, but I am fully eager to join the community
I just bought a nice LG 32LH5000 set for sub 700 euros, assembled in Poland. I placed it on the wall and the first impressions are great. I played a 1080p trailer of "Public Enemies" on a .mov container through the USB port and the picture was terrific, the sound was terrific, overall excellent performance. I tried to play a .mkv sample, but the tv reported it not valid, so probably something went wrong in the copying process. I'll get back with more info once I play around with it. Feel free to ask any questions.

that's weird.... are you sure you didn't get the file formats mixed up.... i tries a .mkv on an LH5000 and LH7000 and they looked/worked fantastically, HOWEVER, when i tried a .wmv or a .mov they didn't work at all....

Re: The Official LG LH5000 LCD Thread

Maybe it depends on the encoding, the bit rate and etc. The trailer was from Apple's website, exported with Quicktime Pro 7.6 (I'm a Mac user) and the .mkv is 1920x816 @ 11004 kbit/s , x264 2-pass. It could be something wrong with my flash drive, because on the Mac it starts.

I haven't tried a 720p res file. Will do tomorrow. The .mov is 1920x800/H.264@9.69 mbits/s, AAC stereo@44,100 kHz

aahhhh, thats right, i read that it supported the h. codecs, my .mov must have been an old one with a dodgy codec. i thought that was weird at the time that it didn't play mine back. when i tried it the 200Hz function seemed to be (stuck) on.... did you find that your movie suffered any 'soap opera' effects?...

If,by "soap opera", you mean the picture sometimes looks like a BBC series indoors shooting, then yes it does, but i don't mind it.

Re: The Official LG LH5000 LCD Thread

Hi! With what cables do you connect the PS? Is it PS2 or PS3? And by digital channel you mean you have a set-top box or you use the in-built dvb-c/t tuner, and again, if it's a set-top box, how do you connect it to the tv? Check also you picture settings! For the last few days I am either experimenting with the advanced settings or the AV mode button on the remote control. It enables you to select pre-defined settings for the picture quality based on application, i.e. - video games, cinema/movies, sprots, etc. Try these tips and "report back"

I have HDMI cables to the screen from my PS3.

About the digital cannel im useing the build in dvb-c/t tuner and I contect with normal attena stick that is also where my normal cable chancels come thru.

I call the shop today and they said it might be that it need to be put to 200Hz since normaly it only starts as 50HZ.

And yes im a big nOOb when it comes to tv

I will revert back later today when im home if I got it to work, because pictures wise (when it dont **** up) is really good.

When I had mine, the TruMotion system was enabled by default on "low", so it should've been the same with yours, unless someone at the shop played with the settings.

Well I came home and try and yes it was on low. But I found out that the problem is not the pixel (as I said im a nOOb.)

The problem is something that the guy I talk with from LG call it ghosting.

I call LG and they said that I should try and reset it to factory settings and start over.

I did and it did not work, and now LG service are close.

I try to put it back on Trumotion to High but hasn't help.

I got no idea how to get it to stop, since it is really anyoing.

Well I guess I need to call them on tuesday when they open up agian and see what I can do.

It is like picture frames are not going fast enough and some time to fast and then it gets blure around moving things.

This happends when playing games and watching Tv both Digital and normal Cable.

Any helps with be great from you guys-

That's good news. About those ghost images, i experienced them today, when i played 720p .mkv of the Champion's League quarter-final between Chelsea and Liverpool. It was mostly on the ball, when moving too fast, even with TruMotion set at high.

That's a shame. I have the 42LH5000 for a couple of days now and I don't exactly recognise these issues.

How's the 200Hz TruMotion? I have the 32" model, so it's 100Hz only. Can you select 100/200Hz or it is only High/Low 200Hz?

Hard to tell. The options are high/low or to turn it off completely. I don't know what the difference is but the manual says 'high' is for smoother movement and 'low' for softer movement, whatever that may be.

High will introduce more artefacts and create more ringing, low is generally the recommended setting as it smooths out motion but doesn't introduce too many artefacts

Re: The Official LG LH5000 LCD Thread

I signed up with the intention of commenting on this long ago, before I even purchased the TV, but I have had it for a while now and thought I'd share my few thoughts.

Upgrading from our old 4:3 25" CRT TV, not sure on the exact size, this new Hi-Def flat panel is gorgeous XD

Got Sky HD hooked up to it, and wow, flicking between the SD and HD channels, massive difference, it's ridiculous. I can't help but notice how crisp everything is! Additionally, it upscales my low-resolution Anime beautifully which is streamed with a Linksys KISS1600 box from my PC, and that's only using the spare HDMI Cable that came with the Sky box (Got an OFC/Dual shielded cable jobby for the Sky, heh).

My only qualms, which probably requires me to play with some settings on the TV (Love the User Interface on it btw), is some Video anomalies:

1) When characters make slow moving such as walking, particularly directly across the screen, the surrounding background imagery significantly wavers about, I dunno if that's the 100hz going to work or not (We have the more limited 32" Model, sorry, forgot to mention).

2) The second part being a bit of an inverse: sometimes choppy movement in fast action scenes, again, I'm sure this is a settings issue.

Just need to play about with it some I suppose.

Actually, one last disappointment: as amazed as I am at it's H264 playback and array of Decoders in general, it failed to play back an MKV File's Subtitles on one of my movie's. Haven't tried much else on it MKV wise, but it stumbled and couldn't seem to detect them in the Playback settings area. I struggled and gave up extracting them on my Computer, with the intention of basically supplying separate SRT files which I think the TV also supports, but alas, I fail.

Other then that, a beautiful TV, don't regret the monies worth spent on it. We can finally watch Stargate (Despite the shows now finished), without reading "TARGAT" because the old 4:3 TV, if not set to letterbox, would chop off the letters either side XD

Hi,
While LH is capable to play MKV files, embedded (muxed) subtitles aren't supported. To see subtitle, you must have separate srt file (with equal) name -in the same folder, of course. That is, LH treats MKV files the same way as AVI files.
Srt inside MKV is UTF-8 coded, which (again) LH TV refuse to show. Solution: after extracting srt from MKV, open srt file with Notepad (if you're on Windows) and just "Save as.." -select ANSI on the bottom of form. Now, LH will show subtitle.
Too bad, LH doesn't recognize embedded subtitles (as I hate having separate srt files). LG says MKV is supported... well, embedded subtitles are within MKV specification -in this case, I would say, MKV is partially supported.

Greetings

Guys, how do you battle the dust? :D
Mine catches a lot of it lately and i have noticed, that there is some static electricity on the bezel. Have any of you experienced the same problem and if yes, have you found any solution?

You can find anti static cloths on the net, not sure if they work but worth a shot. Anyway, I've noticed on both of my TVs (one being LG) that the amount of dust which accumulates goes down over time if you just gently wipe it a couple of times a week with a microfibre cloth or something similar

I wipe it out every single day
I wonder if it's coming from the analog tv cable...
