Last week I got a 42LH4000, nice telly, but the web site and info show that it has a blue bezel, when I got the unit unpacked I found mine had a clear bezel. Spoke to LG who said they would pass it onto technical, still no answer. The TV is fine, but why should I get a TV that is not what is being shown on the their web site?
Keep speaking to LG but still no answers.
Spoke to the supplier who has unpacked several more TV's and there the same.
Trying to get an answer out of LG is proving very hard.
Was going to order a LG Blue Ray player, but I think LG will only supply me a 'Ray' player, as they don't do colours.
Will let you know if I get any news. But don't hold you breath.

the one i've seen was pretty much a clear bezel, VERY slight hint of blue perhaps but the website images are very misleading....

apart from that, seemed like a fantastic value for money TV!!...

The problem was when I spoke to LG they didn't know what the problem was and have only just come back to me to say that the bezel is nothing like there advertising photos.
TV is very good, but LG should change what they are advertising.

Well atm im looking for a new tv and have been lookin for a nice design telly. The choice is btw either LG or Samsung. The LG seems alot cooler and what im worried about next is the prices.

The price range for the LH4000 to LH5000 is pretty deep when you look at what u get. The LH5000 got usb that supports Divx HD, a 200Hz True motion and Energy Saving Recommended.

Thats about it. Ive seen some post that the diffrence btw 100Hz and 200Hz is nothing and many turns off the true motion as it dont realy work great.

So my question will be, is it worth goin up to the LH5000? and is this telly worth the money compared to the Samsung LE40A786

I've just got a 42LH4000, paid £699. The picture is very good, I didn't go for the 5000, couldn't see the point in paying out the extra cash. Have set the TV to 100Hz and seems to run fine, can't comment on the Samsung. But you get a lot of telly for your money with the LH4000. Ian

Hi,

Does anyone know if the 32" version of the LH4000 has 100Hz or not? It used say it did on the LG website but that's now changed. The same with the richer sounds website, although when I looked in there it had a 100 Hz sticker on it.

It seems that the only difference between the LH4000 and 5000 is a slightly different design and the ability of the LH5000 to play video files from USB - neither of those seem to be worth the extra cost but if the the 5000 does 100Hz and the 4000 doesn't that might tip the ballance for me. Can anyone who has some experience with these models let me now?

Hi Dan, I've got a LH4000, it is 100Hz and full HD, 1080. Had it about 3 weeks, good TV.

I've just checked the LG site and it says the 42 inch has 100Hz but it no longer says that for the 32. Just checked the trustedreviews review on the 32" and it says it doesn't have it. But I remember the specs used to have it. I wonder if they removed it or LG just aren't bigging it up so people buy the LH5000 model.

Anyone got the 32" for a definitive answer?

I'm also planning to get a TV from this series pretty soon, probably the 42" but maybe even the 47" if I'm feeling adventurous.

However I've recently read a review which was hardly overwhelmingly positive.

While the first part of the review is very positive, they then raise a couple of quite concerning issues, and indeed the final rating is fairly mediocre.

It's not enough to put me off, and at the end of the day it's the opinion of someone who probably has far higher expectations than the average consumer such as myself, but maybe if someone who owns the TV could give their view on the points they've raised?

Basically there seems to be concern that:-

• Dark scenes are mired by a blue-grey mist
• Contrast drops dramatically if viewed from an angle
• Sound sync problems while watching 1080p/24 Blu-ray sources via HDMI

What do LH4000 owners make of these suggestions?

Well, I'm coming toward the end of a two trial with the 32LH4000 (thank you Richer Sounds!) and I must say the TV has surprised in a number of ways.

This is my first stab at HDTV after sitting on the fence for years so I'm a bit lacking when it comes to comparing with other sets/manufacturers.

First off though - the 32"LH4000 DOES NOT have 100hz (even the guys at R.S. have had to alter their in store displays following confirmation from the LG rep). The 37" does have this facility.

Must say from a motion-wise perspective the set is much better than many 50hz models (and some 100hz too). It can struggle with some fast action though I'm not entirely sure that wasn't coming from the source material.
The 5ms response time (so I'm told) may be helping out here.

Calibration-wise it is STACKED with options - again I've not seen many other sets and certainly haven't got my hands dirty like I have with this set - so I have found a much more satisfactory picture once I got the set home.

SD DTV is better than I'd expected though as many have said Freeview is a mixed bag when it comes to transmission quality - hardly the fault of the set.

My main uses are gaming and TV - no blue-ray or SKY-HD yet but the component 1080p images from the 360 look fantastic and have really revived my interest (and have had me digging out some old games to see them in a new light!). Response time seems ample to me but I'm no gaming ninja....

I purchased a VGA cable for the 360 too so I could check out the upscaling to 1080p of a DVD - it works fine and the set can indeed accept and show a 1080p signal (some don't of VGA apparently). I'm not convinced the upscaling is of much benefit over the component signal though the set does report the signal at 60hz as opposed to 50hz via component.

Last night I spent some time with a borrowed Digital Video Essentials disc as I attempted a more serious calibration task which bring me to the only real issue I have with the set. Black Levels.

With the disc I have found that the 'blacker than black' ability of the set is simply not possible. There is no 'lower than the background' black visible on the test pages no matter what backlight/brightness/contrast settings I try.

Since many of my DVDs contain dark scenes (Blade Runner being something of a favourite) I have been disappointed with the black on this set. I know plasma is still the best way to go but 32" was my maximum and I wasn't so taken with the only 32" plasma - LGs 32PG6000 when I saw both that set and this 32LH4000 side by side in store.

Also, unless you are sat pretty much dead on and with the set at eye level, the picture clarity drops off enormously. Please don't consider mounting this up high on a wall (wrong headed whatever the set I know but...).

It really has me wondering in the few remaining days of my trial whether I should be looking at an alternative set (Panny TX32LZD80 anyone?) or live with the 85% grey level of the blacks on the set.....

What device did you use to play the DVE disc? This maybe a big factor in your results as not all players are equal and some are unable to pass through all information required for the disc to display properly - the below black test being the one to trip up many systems.
It's true that you do not need to see all three black bars to calibrate a set, but it is certainly useful, as the below black bar gives you that extra bit of information. Not seeing the below black bar doesn't always mean you lose all detail in a picture, and like I say, it may not be down to the tv.

Blu-ray playback is very good from the PS3. I can't complain about picture quality at all. Infact, going by reviews and comparisons, the PS3 still ranks as one of the better Blu-ray players on the market. Newer models are even better as they use 'smaller' technology for the chips and therefore run at cooler temperatures. This means that they tend to run silent, unlike early 60gb models, like mine. The cooling fan makes quite a racket and movies have to be loud to drown it out. A minor gripe.
If you do intend to use a PS3 as a movie player, it is worth getting the Bluetooth remote to make life easier. Either that, or buy an adapter that converts Infra Red or radio frequencies from normal remotes into a bluetooth signal, enabling you to use almost any universal remote to control your PS3.
Since you are going to spend only 150 on the console, I can't see a reason why you shouldn't choose this over a standalone player, especially as you can also play games as well as watch movies.
The PS3 comes with composite/scart connections. Swap these out for a HDMI cable immediately to enjoy high resolution movies and gaming.

Just got this TV (42in version), and must say LG has done a very fine job, looks and features and not to for get image quality is very good.

Though anyone knows if it is possible to upgrade/flash the firmware, am thinking maybe possible to get the LH5000 firmware on LH4000, since the only thin missing is DivX playback, did not thing it was woth the extra money, but hardware wise it should work IMO.

Else very nice TV, would though wish it was possible to delete and change DVT numbers, but I can live with the way it is now...

it's unlikely you'll be able to flash the 4000 with the 5000 firmware as the 5000 is 200Hz and has a slightly different chipset, i agree with you though, i expect its a licensing issue with DivX

Ok, did not know the LH5000 had different chip, but the 200Hz can be turned off i think, but guess it is time to upgrade my home theater, seems that LG has made some nice ones, with USB DivX support :D.

I have recently purchased a 32 inch LG LH4000 LCD TV. Very happy with the picture ,.......but not so happy with the sound.
I have tried playing around with the audio settings but just can't get rid of the "fuzzy" sound when there is a deep voice such as news readers and sports show panelists.
Can anybody offer advice on how to set my personal audio settings so I can finally sort this out!!
I can avoid news readers .... but I love my sport!!!

By "fyzzy", what do you mean?

Have not had any problems here, standard setting with Clear Voice ON (set to 3).

By "fuzzy" I mean a vibration type noise.......is this what is known as resonance??
Its really really annoying.
I presume it can't be anything to do with the cable/connections from my sky box??

Hi all

Purchased a 37LH4000 around 1 month ago (loved the LH5000, bit too pricey!), pretty impressed with it so far, only issues have been some pixelating with Sky+ playback, nothing though on live TV which is a good sign I think. I run a PS3 through HDMI and this has been quite frankly awesome for gaming so far, even compared to my friends Panasonic Plasma (720p) with a X360, although the blacks are better on his screen

Two questions:

Can you set the screen to constantly run at 100HZ , mine seems to switch between 50HZ on Sky and 60HZ on the PS3?

Does anyone know what the number to get the Sky remote working for it is, saw someone post this earlier, hoping there may be an answer now........I am going to be that lazy rather than to use 2 remotes !?

I'm buying the 37" LH4000 on Saturday (having decided that I really can't stall paying the electricity bill in order to get a Panasonic LZD85 )

It is going to be mainly used for Xbox 360 gaming and I'm now worried about the black levels - are they really THAT bad?

Also, it claims to have a 178 degree viewing angle - it this a bit of creative advertising?

The black will always be better on Plasma, I think the LH4000 har very good black level, was impressed with the image quality myself, just don't expect to get the same contrast as plasma screen, only some thing you see in direct comparison IMO.
