LG’s first 3D Plasma TV is the PX990 uses active 3D technology - it is the first 3D plasma TV in the world to receive 3D THX certification: guaranteeing the ultimate cinema experience in the home with extra smooth motion for action-orientated content and vivid colours. The PX9900 is also the first LG 3D TV to offer 2D to 3D conversion combined with 600hz technology to give you the smoothest picture available in both 2D and 3D.

No me neither mate but for people interested in 3D that is a cracking price for a brand new model of that spec and being the worlds 1st THX certified 3D panel.

I do wonder if LG have solved the line bleed issue that affects the current models?

Just because it's also 3D Ready does not mean should not consider for 2D - the price gap between this and PK990 will not be very high which means should also be considered.

Do I also remember reading that the PX990 produces a deeper black than the PK990? Or did I make that up? :D

i would also like to know this aswell.

the PX990 is the next step up from the PK990 if im correct? what advantages does it have over that model.

thanks again

Main Differences are around the 3D Technology to be honest...

  1. 3D Ready
  2. 2D - 3D Conversion
  3. 1 Pair of Active Shutter 3D Glasses included (worth £99)
  4. THX Certified (2D + 3D)
My point is that if you are not interested in 3D now - that might change in a year or two and the cost difference is not as huge as everyone will expect.:thumbsup:

Do you not see it on your Panny? Ive seen it faintly on every Panny Ive seen. I just thought it was a plasma thing. ;)

If it's basically a PK990 and you're not interested in 3D; then perhaps it'd be worth snapping up a 60PK990 which are only £300 more than a new 50PX990 will be?

Though as far as I'm aware, the undefeatable edge enhancement woes haven't been fixed on the PK990 still - has it on the PX990 George?

Wasn't LG looking into a fix a couple of months back and wasn't Phil Hinton to be receiving it pre the PK790 review which has been delayed ever since?

Yes that's what i thought. :confused:

Can't say i've noticed the edge enhancement bug though and don't really think it's much of a big deal BUT it would still be good if LG release a fix for it.

Apparently Phil should receive the new PK790 tomorrow so there's still hope :D

From the PK990 review thread where it was mentioned;
Yes, the courier decided not to knock on the door today and instead put a card through the letter box. He probably didn't fancy helping me lift it on his last day before the weekend. It'll be here on Monday.

You are forgetting a major difference. The PX990 has newer and faster phosphors (to prevent crosstalk in 3d mode). Since IR is the biggest disadvantage of the LG plasma's, i'm hoping that this new phosphor will improve the IR considerably. This new phosphor will also have an effect on 2D.

If thats correct lets hope it's not a negative effect :)

Moving back to this :facepalm:
Bit of bad news. The PK790 arrived today in the back of an escort van from the courier company APC, it was lying flat. The box was ripped to shreds and the screen smashed. Obviously we declined the delivery and have informed LG. That's the second time this has happened with APC Couriers in about 18 months.
Ah well, these things happen. Review will appear as soon as I can get hold of another sample that is in one piece.

Sadly, the courier tried to deliver one ripped box that was lying flat in the back of an escort van, with a smashed screen! :mad: Review on hold again until we can get a replacement. Not LG's fault, down to poor courier.

Personally I think it's sabotage by Panasonic! :devil:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Panasonic Ninjas I bet.

Is LG releasing a new firmware for the 790s etc? I doubt the sample for Phil was the only one, surely.

Well, last week LG owners had another firmware update (atleast on the PK590 anyway), so don't know if that's linked.

If it receives positive feedback from Phil then it should be released to everyone.
