Best LCD or Plasma for under £500 - looking at 37PX80BA
Hello, Im buying my first LCD/Plasma, looking for some advice, i'll be using for SD Freeview and PS3 & Bluray,
Ive decided i want a "37 set
I want the best i can get for my needs and my budget £500, can't really go any higher than £500 !
Been looking at the Panasonic 37PX80BA, seen it for £499 at my local comet, also looking at the Samsung PS42A457P1, Anyone have these set, and views on them ?!?
Anyone have any other ideas ?!
Also, is LCD or Plasma best for gaming ?
Thanks in advance !

Answered your own question in the title
Plasmas handle the motion better for games, and for me are still superior. But people prefer LCD as there will be no image retention or screenburn, so the better choice for a sole gaming tv or really hardcore gamers who don't want to have to take care of their tv as much as with a plasma.

Something to bare in mind with plasmas, whilst they don't exhibit motion blur some screens have disctinct phoshor trails.... This is *very* noticable on the Panasonics moreso than any other plasma on the market.... Something to do with there "Ultrabright" clear screens ....
Not a bad screen but something to be aware of ..... it annoyed me quite a bit on my old px80....

There is the chance of phosphor trails, but not everyone can see them, I for one can't, and it really is dependent on you and your eyes.
Go and have a look in a shop and maybe take a demo disc of a film with some fast panning sequences and see if you see the trails.

Re: Best LCD or Plasma for under £500 - looking at 37PX80BA
Don't worry the sites and your friends are talking rubbish.
Plasmas will have a life to half brightness of 60,000-100,000 hours. I can't rememebr the exact rough lifespan I calculated, but when watching a panel with 60,000hrs to 1/2 brightness for 6hrs every day of the year, then it will take about 30 Years to hit this figure.
Nothing to worry about at all, just haters making things up
