Calibrated HD and SD settings for LE40A656, firmware 1023.0

Note: These settings are calibrated for a dark room viewing environment. If the settings are too dark, you can simply up the backlight.
These settings were done on a 40" A656. As can be seen from the different settings on this page, one persons calibrated settings can greatly vary to the next. The settings are for reference only. They may or may not be accurate on other sets - they were calibrated for my set alone.

Settings:

NOTE: There are two sets of settings here, firstly there are new settings I have just done using in my opinion better techniques in order to calibrate the colourspace. These techniques are using CIE94 to calculate the colour errors, using 75% IRE colour patterns and with adjusting my secondaries so they fall in line with my actual primaries. In my opinion the CIE94 calibration is more accurate. I have left the CIE76 settings up anyway for reference.

Device Setup

Here is how I have my devices setup:

Xbox 360:

For this I use PC mode in order to have the most minimal lag possible.

(HDMI cable into HDMI2)

For games, HDMI2 named PC, Xbox 360 Reference Level = Expanded, Colourspace = RGB.
For HD movies, HDMI2 not named PC, Xbox 360 Reference Level = Standard, Colourspace = Rec709.

PS3:

(via HDMI)
Video Settings:
BD\DVD Video Output Format (HDMI) set to Automatic.
BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI) On.
Display Settings:
RGB Full Range (HDMI) Full
Y Pb\Cb Pr\cr Super-White (HDMI) On
TV Settings:
HDMI Black Level Normal.

There is no need to change settings between games and movies as the PS3 will automatically switch between them.

Hi all.

I use the Mumid settings for FW 1022 and now today the 1023 is out.
And the settings are::thumbsup:

My question to mumid is.
Do you need for each firmware a other calibration?
or the settings for Firmware 1022 is also good for 1023?

Many thanks.

1023.... There goes another couple of evenings... :D

Up until now, I've personally found slight differences in picture settings post FW update. As a result, I've re-calirbated my panel after each update.

I don't see anything wrong with your English. It's certainly better than my German and dare I say it, better than a number of posts I've read on here from English posters... :smashin:

I usually do a new calibration for each new firmware but they are generally pretty similar. I will post up some new settings hopefully later and put them helpfully in post #2 i reserved earlier! I will do some sd ones too.

I think that's a very fair comment to make and just to add, the majority of the changes are probably un-noticeable to the naked eye too.

I just did the update and everything went ok except the auto power on. (known issue ?)
All my settings (Mumid) are still as they were

Can someone tell me how to check the firmware version ? Samsung couldn't :(

Thank you for the info.

Now i am waiting of your perfect settings:thumbsup:

I have a question for you mumid:
What is the difference about Black Adjust and HDMI Black Level?
I have the Black adjust setting high and the HDMI Black level setting normal about your setting.
What is if i set Black adjust setting off and the HDMI Black level setting low?
What setting is better? or is it the same?
Thanx

The last update i did never altered my settings either.
You have to go into the sm to see which version you have if your not sure.

Where is the new fw update ?

The FW updates don't physically change the settings in the menus. They alter them at a software code level. With that in mind, you'll not physically see any changes unless you can perceive the subtle differences in the pictures produced.

Code level? Hi babe - you speak my language. What you doin' tonight? ;)

Er...where was I? Oh yeah - the previous update carried out (1022.0) reset all the user settings but this one did'nt. Nobody else posted user settings being reset.

I remember Paul that you posted a FW update done where the TV hours run shown in the service menu reset to zero.

Howzat! Caught in the slips!? :D
Alan

hi guys.is there any way to keep the setting that i have, after entering the service menu? every time i enter service menu all settings switch to default, also is there another way to get out of the service menu without putting the TV in stand-by?
