Thanks for that link! It is nice to know that the trade mark was taken up by ebuyer and not by a Chinese import company. How come English names are associated with bad quality like bankers, cars, electronic goods, Members of Parliament, construction workers ....whereas Japanese and German names are respected? It is understandable that German names are used in their home market as most of their consumer electronics are imported from China and re-branded with German names their. But it is unfair and unethical to use this policy for English company in an English market..these decision makers seemed to brand the English names as less than wholesome and unsaleable and producer of low quality stuff.

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
It's been going on as a marketing ploy for many decades.
In the early 1970s I bought a pair of binoculars that appeared to be made by "Lieberman and Gortz"; being somewhat naive in those days, I made the association that the store (the long defunct "Headquarter and General" in Holborn) had intended. It sounded German and this invented brand name conjured up images of Zeiss etc. They weren't appalling binoculars but no different from all the others that didn't have any fancy sounding branding on them; however, the name definitely influenced my purchasing decision.

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
Hi, my friend is interested in one of these but -
Quote:
|
Viewing Angle( L/R/U/D ) 85 / 85 / 80 / 80 by panel
|
To me that sounds like it must be a basic/cheap Twisted (TN) panel or one of the other earlier technologies like the Fujitsu VA. Having said that, the Fujitsu LCD monitor I am viewing this on has a decent viewing angle and is from 2005 so I think TVs should have moved on a bit from that. Strange that they are apparently using this tech on even the largest screens - perhaps they have their own factory? I think if the angle states 178 it is IPS, 176 is usually MVA or SVA (S-PVA). I don't believe these numbers flat out, I just use that for reference. Also, it states response time is 'under 5ms' (sic), if it is under 5ms what is the actual response time???
Ebuyer also sell Vistron brand TVs, I think they are a Taiwanese company and probably a better bet as far as quality is concerned. Well, at least you can find out more about them, though their website is old. I have seen Vistron DVD Recorders on Ebay and I think they may be related to Vestel Recorders so perhaps their TVs are Vestel also. Vestel is a Turkish electronics group with hands in the component market and apparently make many finished products like the Argos (Home Retail Group) brands such as Bush, Goodmans, Wharfedale (Wharfedale is not owned by Argos) and some of the major companies like Hitachi, Toshiba etc. I think Vestel have used IPS panels in the past, but couldn't swear to it - the Vistron brand TVs are now using IPS from LG Display though so it might be more than a coincidence. Sorry this sounds confusing, but it seems it is! Edit: Apparently Vistron are from Singapore? Or at least their website is registered there.

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
Sorry for the extra reply but I also thought of a brand that Ebuyer and others sell which is perhaps reasonable - Teco. They are a major Taiwanese company and I have actually seen one of their sets in the flesh and it was quite decent, the viewing angle was fine too. That said it was a larger 42 inch screen but I am sure they make smaller sizes if that is what you are after.
Just to give an idea of their prices, they do a 37 inch HD-Ready (720P) set for under £500 - http://www.comwales.com/eshop/produc...roductid=81830. This is only my opinion and I wouldn't like to give advice but its worth a look anyway, if the price is right.

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
* Viewing Angle( L/R/U/D ) 85 / 85 / 80 / 80 by panel
Doesn't that way of listing the angles suggest it is 85 degrees to the left from centre, 85 deg to the right from centre giving a total of 170? If not why the 'L/R/U/D' method of displaying it?
My daughter has just bought a 19" one of these for her bedroom. Will post a comment on how good it looks before the weekend. Frankly though, she's not a HD buff - will be watching Eastenders, The Apprentice, Big Bro' and the Simpsons so for the money (the 19" is £139) it looks not too bad a spec. It also has a three year warranty.
I'll let you know....

Please see my correspondence with another poster in this thread.
22" LCD TV - Any good ?
IMHO this is the best deal at way under £200 at the moment. I am contemplating buying a second one myself to replace the 17" 5 year old Dell LCD monitor on my PC that I am using at present.

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
Interesting that all the remote control functions of an LG model 42LG5000 seem to work; it might be worth Googling the LG model to see if it's a near clone.
There appear to be no high level audio outputs (sufficient to power an external passive speaker) but the SCART audio outputs could still work ok when fed to ampilfiers or active speakers.

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
The fact that the 42 inch TV lacks a power on/off switch leads me to think it isn't made by Vestel, who usually put these on the rear or the side next to the video input. I also think that means it cannot be based on anything LG have made other than perhaps the panel.
IMO Ebuyer's quality does not impress anybody.

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
Hi hawkwind,
That seems to refer to the audio setup of the TV speakers rather than an external output to speakers. I don't know if you have purchased one of these TVs but the set will likely have phono (stereo, that is black/left channel red/right) connections or digital outs.

from a quick look @ 42 inch Full HD LCD Televisions from Foehn & Hirsch it looks like SPDF could be the audio out, can you not borrow a cable and check?

Re: Foehn & Hirsch 22"
Having had a look at the manual you sent me it's not very clear and as I said before it does not mention the spdf under the audio in options so it safe to say it is the audio out, as for what cable you need , what are you going to be plugging it in to?
