Sony 40w4500 - Dvi to hdmi -Geforce 8800gtx?

Hi, im having abit of trouble with connecting my pc to my tv.
I have a 40inch sony W4500 and my pc has a Geforce 8800gtx. I attempted using a dvi cable to vga (iused a dvi to vga adaptor though) and nothing seemed to work, i also used my flat mates Dvi to vga (actual cable) and it didnt seem to work. (however he did think his cable might be broken)

so i was a bit stumped.

SO i decided to to invest in a dvi to hdmi cable and it kind of works. however none of the reolutions seem to work correctly and the colours are all off.
Then i realised the tv had a pc mode but that only works with the vga input correct?

so im looking for some help with setting it up.

Any ideas or should i just go and buy a new dvi to vga cable?

thanks
scott

p.s. sorry im writting this really quickly because i have uni in five mins.

It might be worth getting a DVI to HDMI adapter from reports in the w4500 thread I think it works better than the vga.
Maplin do them
DVI to HDMI Adaptor > Maplin
But I'm sure you could probably get a cheaper one somewhere else.
