Sony 40V4000 / 40W4000 differences?

Hi folks.

I know these TVs aren't the newest kids on the block, so I'm sorry if this thread annoys anyone.

In a nutshell, a friend of mine bought a 40V4000 new, from a friend of a friend, but he was expecting to get the 40W4000. I believe he paid £550 for it. Doing some searching, I can see there's a small difference in physical build between the two sets, and also there's a small difference in contrast ratio, one being 30000 and the other 33000. Apart from that, is there any other reason for my friend to believe he got a raw deal here?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Sony 40V4000 / 40W4000 differences?

The 40W4000 seems to get much better reviews than the 40V4000 On the following tests, for example, the W is 'Highly recommended' and the V is a 'Qualified recommendation', and this seems much the same as other sites too.

40W4000
40V4000

Cheers for the link.

I guess without seeing the two sets side by side, it's going to be pretty hard to notice any obvious differences.

£550 is still a good price for the V though

Re: Sony 40V4000 / 40W4000 differences?

The 40V4000 will be retailing for less than £500 in the January sales.

At 40" the difference between the V and W in terms of picture quality is pretty noticeable.

Re: Sony 40V4000 / 40W4000 differences?

The V4000 range will all be heavily discounted in the January sales. Sony offered them to dealers at crazy prices a few weeks back in order for them to stock up. Combined with further discounts from Sony on all V4000 sales during January, dealers will be able to offer the 40" at less than £500 and still make money.

Re: Sony 40V4000 / 40W4000 differences?

Dealers were sent an email a few weeks back offering the V4000 models at discounted prices to enable them to stock up ready for the January sales, which actually start 26th December. On top of the further discounts Sony are offering to dealers on sales of the V4000 until the end of January, this enables the prices to drop to ridiculous levels with dealers still making profit.

I'm sure the 'crazy tv sale' adverts from the big nationals (Currys/Comet) are waiting in the wings.

Just got an email from richer sounds.. £499 in the boxing day sales.

I've been offered it at £549 with a 5 year warranty from another retailer, so hopefully taking them up on it tomorrow.
