The LE40/LE46A786 are the current range, the 7 series and 9 series LED backlit models are the top spec tv's. The tvs comparable to yours in the upto date range are probably the LE40A5..... series.
The comparable tv for the 786 would be the old LE52F96BD as this was the only LED available when yours was being sold. The 9 series is the same panel/screen but with additional internet functionality.
Difference's to list, these are only a few and are not exhaustive.
Higher Contrast Ratio
LED Backlight
Not sure if yours is 1080p
100hz
The Bezel
More HDMI connections
Better colour reproduction.
It is difficult to list differences without spouting specs at you, I would say that I had an LE46F86 which was a higher spec that yours and this TV casts a very large and dark shadow over that one. So if you are looking to change to it, do not hold back.

re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*
I am also concerned about the glossy finish... Doesn't ruin the blacks during daylight? In darker scenes I assume I will end seeing me reflected in the tv...
Also, someone that uses this TV to game, can tell me if there is any hints of ghosting while playing?

You only get a reflection when the room is bright and if you have a light source in the reflection area that you can see on the tv. With regard ghosting when gaming, so long as you have the 100hz off you can be assured to have no problems at all.

re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*
Does anyone have a problem getting BBC1 / BBC2 and BBC3 in Freeview?
I did an auto-tune which gave me just about all channels, with the exception of the ones listed above. I tried to manually tune it - but it wont let me manually tune channel 1.
Six nations on BBC1 tomorrow. Help!

re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*
Some more info. Tuned to ITV1 or Channel 4 and most others.
Network: London (ID 3005)
Bit error level: 2
Signal strength: 42
And when in the Manual Store menu, I can change the channel - but I cant search manually - only an auto check on that specific channel.

re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*
there are new LED series by samsung yes, however they will NOT feature local dmming an important aspect of a led model and neither the prices will be cheaper than the current A780 series. As a result I d grab an A780 before stock ends

re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*
I have a query, can anyone else who has this set put the set into mute and see if the mute graphic moves up and down about 2 inches on the screen. Is this a problem.

I have the same amp and get some lip sync problems as the amp has no delay. Have you overcome this? and how?

Hi Chris,
When you say the replacement comes in April, do you mean the edge-lit ones? Are there no direct replacements for the current 7 & 9 series with local dimming LED's due?
Suave!

re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*
no unfortunately no.the only possibility for a local dimming one is IFA(the new 9 series,if it comes). The edge lit series prices have been leaked already and the B6000 is around the A780 level
