Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*
I found the "out of the box" settings to be pretty good actually (Home, not Shop), but still tweaked a little using the W4500 settings thread.
I've only had the TV set up for three days (managed to get a good deal from the local Sony centre when bundled with a PS3...better than Robert Whyte/JL anyway!) and I'm only running Sky+ SD through it at the moment (Sky HD and PS3 for Xmas!) and I am *stunned* by the SD quality.
Having seen friend's LCDs with SD sources and seeing how ugly it is has probably held me back from buying an LCD, but this set has SD nearly as good as my old Panasonic 32" CRT....it's really good. I can't wait to get the 360 and PS3 running in HD now!
I have no clouding issues and no 'rainbow effect' (although not using HDMI yet) and am currently over the moon with this set....ignore the unfortunate naysayers who might have a faulty set...this is one good TV.
The only issue I currently have is the sound...when I run sound through my amp (optical direct from Sky+ box) and the TV, the lag is noticeable from the TV, causing a wonderful echo/reverb effect, great for action moves, less useful for normal TV. I'm going to try adding some delay to my amp but as it's an old Sherwood, I'm not holding out much hope...so it's either amp or TV sound for now, not both.
Anyway, the component cable for the 360 arrives on Tuesday, and the PS3 is an Xmas pressie for myself (with Little Big Planet and Iron Man blu-ray).
Got the TV all set up on my alphason 1100 stand and all AV equipment snugly tucked away....it's gonna be a good Xmas!

Ordered the 46" from Amazon, £1169 with 3 year Sony warranty. Should be arriving tuesday or wednesday. Merry Xmas to me
This weekend can't go fast enough. Don't say that very often.

If you buy the VGA cable for the Xbox 360 then you can watch your DVD collection upscaled which looks great. This is assuming your Xbox 360 doesn't have an HDMI connection.

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*
Re clouding. I was in RW Glasgow checking w4500 . I asked about the clouding, salesman said that you should leave the tv set to bed in (70hrs?) before changing any settings and it is becuse people change the settings straight away before the tv has had a chance to settle that you get problems like clouding. he also said shaking the set would solve this. Now I have been following these sony threads since x2000. Learned a lot some say too much but no technical knowledge. I am highly sceptical about what he said but does anyone with real knowledge able to comment on what was said.
I really wanted an LED set but as there is no 40" and z4500 too expensive decided to go for w4500 which looks good and will fullfill my needs.

Whats the best price for the 40" W4500 at the moment? and when do you think it will come down?
Thanks, Chris

Don't listen to salesmen and stop worrying about clouding and any other possible horrors. You would need to be extremely unlucky to get a dodgy panel.Problems are grossly exaggerated.Look forward to possessing one of the best panels in town with a picture quality to die for.

Incredible. I have never heard such rubbish.
Before you take the gamble of buying a W4500, do check some of the online reviews;
Sony Bravia KDL-52W4500 Review on CNET.co.uk
Sony KDL40W4500 / KDL40W4500U Review
Sony Bravia KDL-46W4500 46in LCD TV Review - TV Reviews - TrustedReviews
In fact why take the risk? I decided to buy a better looking, better performing, better quality set and save a few quid into the bargain. Go and check out the Samsung range before playing the Sony lottery.

Question to people that get the telly from JL.
Is it your came without this stickers on side (1080p/24fps/contrast etc.) My came only with the thing protecting the bezel and pedestal.Wondering if that is normal ;]
