why do you put the HD TV TEST as a review that states that W4500 is a bad tv?I dont know if you ve read it but they write that W4500 is one of the best lcd's.

Just taken delivery of my 46" from Amazon.
First impressions are...the stand is almost at breaking point for a 46" set! Does anyone else think so? It appears very unstable to me.
Not had chance to turn it on or plug it in yet though, that will have to wait until after work.

Judging from your signature you have not had a lot of luck with TV sets lately! I hope you have better luck with the 40z4500 when it arrives

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*
Regarding the clouding, I've had two 40w4500 sets, the first one manufactured in 8/08 and the second one in 10/08.
Now, the first one had more clouding to the left but it didn't really bother me, however it did flicker which made me send it back for another one.
The second one which I still have ,has less overall clouding but this one also flickers which is annoying. The second one also has red and blue smear which the first one didn't have.

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*
I bought a 40inch w4500 on Saturday for £950 with a 5 year sony guarantee. The picture is amazing coming from a 7 yr old 29inch CRT, especially blu-ray on my PS3. However... this clouding issue is annoying me!
If this is a standard feature of LCD's why is it not in any of the blurb associated with buying lcd tv's? I've spent two months researching tv's in magazines such as What HiFi etc.. and in all their guides they talk about image judder/smoothness/screen burn etc.. all the usual stuff but nothing about clouding!
Is this some conspiracy amongst manufacturers and the tech press?
I think Sony pulled a fast one on What HIFI and What HIFI are scared to really get Sony for this. Sony have sold 4 times as many tv's because of what Hi-Fi's endorsement and I think Sony need to sort this out.
I have clouding on my tv and it messes up any cinema experience because once you notice it, it's over! I've told the shop and they say they will only replace the tv once. If that one has clouding they say they wont give me my money back! Is that correct? Should they just give me my money back seeing as the machine should be classed as "not doing what it's intended to do" for the type of money it is?
I'm just a bit stressed out about this thing, because the guy in the shop said that ALL lcd's suffer from this. I though it was a few and wouldnt be that bad, but if ALL lcd's have it then how come reviewers/magazines dont point it out as a negative issue with LCD in all their guides?

I've just bought some new glasses from specsaver with varifocal lenses. Do not go there! Major eyestrain. I've taken them back 3 times now and this time I'm going to demand my money back.
Try watching your tele through them!
p.s. I think they had a small clouding issue in the bottom left hand corner.

Yes:
This is their summary:
"This superb Best Buy 40-inch LCD TV from Sony is HD-ready 1080p, bristling with useful features and has beautifully textured picture quality. On the downside, the viewing angle is poor and we recommend avoiding the wasteful quick-start standby mode"

Well, it depends what you mean by clouding.
I am very picky when it comes to PQ and as you say once you notice something it niggles. If I look hard at the 40w4500 in a dark room with no input and the backlight turned up then I can see light bleeding slightly in at 2 corners. Also in the same conditions if I look at an angle to the screen then there is an uneveness (clouding) across the screen too. However even with dark films I can see no sign of this under normal viewing conditions. Bars at the top and bottom of films also look black and crisp.
Now if I try this with my cheap old 19" sets it does not happen. No corner bleeding. No clouding. But this is because they are nowhere near black to start with. I just get uniform gray with them right across the screen!
Until the new LED technology becomes established it is all about compromise and what can give the brightest crispest pictures while maintaining good deep blacks. And IMHO this Sony hits the jackpot on this one.
That said however if the clouding on your set is still visible with the backlight setting turned down and with subdued rather than pitch black lighting then yes it is faulty and should be replaced by any reputable dealer.
