It sounds really bad if it's interfering with your black bars. Get it replaced. No question the next one will be fine.

Not true. Bad clouding has affected all the sizes in this model.
Don't bank on the replacement being any better either. A number of people have reported replacing 2 or 3 sets.
I'm afraid purchasing a W4500 is an expensive lottery.

My only bugbear is I have my Panasonic EX77 running through my onkyo 606 to HDMI1. This has the settings for my PS3 (BD and DVD viewing). The HD settings just aren't good for the viewing of SD TV stuff on the HDD. I think I'll be better off running a seperate feed to HDMI2 from the DVDR and optical sound to the onkyo.

ive had a dodgy samsung set for two years, and before anyone says im not a samsung fanboy..I used to work for samsung!!!!
Every company lets bad stock through, its a fact, but you would be unfortunate to get one, i know that as i used to QC them!!
Nothing will put me off buying a Sony for myself, i had no choice with the samsung's
Four of my close friends have the 6 series samsung, ive seen them all with perfect settings, ive seen the w4500 in a few places and it beats the living daylights out of the samsung, i would rather the lottery than buy Samsung ever again, and may i remind you i used to Work for samsung and sang their praises (thats why my friends have 4 of them).
the 6 series is old hat compared to the sony, no vompetition at all for pic quality, if you don't get a bad one!!
Anyway i enjoy a lottery :-)

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA *Part 2*
Hi guys.
Has anyone read the which review for the 40w4500 as the website says it has just been tested?
I would subscribe myself but due to that fabulous christmas time where I have had to blow over a grand on kids presents, that they will have totally discarded by lunchtime my card balance reads £0.00.

However the W4500 does seem to be particularly plagued with problems.
|
I don't agree with this. If you read the threads on any TV here you will come across as many problems on any TV. It is quite natural that people with problems are going to post here. The Sony is no different in that respect.
One thig I have noticed is that this is a VERY popular model. That in itself is going to mean an increased chance of people with problems.

'Clouding' a fogging of the mind with which one cannot see what a great TV set this is.
'Clouding' an urge to find pockets of light eminating from the corners of the screen when no image is available.
'Clouding' what the weather is outside whilst you are indoors watching great HD on your W4500.

I am genuinely puzzled why such a great set has drawn so many of them out of the woodwork. Chips on their shoulders or not they seem very determined to put people off buying. No sooner one disappears from the thread than another takes his place.
I don't have a huge experience of large LCDs but I used to have a Sony S series and have friends with Samsungs and LDs. And the picture quality -especially the gorgeous blacks - on my 40w4500 is just way way better than on any of these.
I will say it again: this is one beautiful TV set! And no matter what anyone tries to tell you all LCD panels lit by CCFLs suffer from backlight bleeding. It is in the nature of the beast. There is some hope that this might be greatly lessened in future as new LED technology starts to appear in the larger panels.
But for now we are stuck with the problem and on a good set you should only see it if you go hunting for it in a darkened room. If it interferes though with normal viewing using recommended settings then there is something wrong and the set needs to go back.
