The 40S4000 is very similar to the 40V4000, with a new design, no digital out and no d-media port.
You can see that the 40V4000 is a very good television: here.
And i think it's a good value for money:
good panel, 40" full Hd.
It's almost a 40W4000 without a 10bit panel, and some video filters (wide colour, x.ycc...)
I will receive my 40S400A (the asian model without dvb and different connectivity like no scart 2 components, i'm not in europe) tomorrow, i'll do some picture with SD sat tv, ps3 and upscaled dvd if you want =).

Well I'm a sony fan too!
And i must admit that there is no much choice in my country (they are selling old sammys, sharps, or philips...), except the sony store which sells the latest asian/middle east/africa range so...
=> Sony!
In the store, with a W400a and a V400a side by side, i noticed no difference between V and S, and a slight difference with the W (the 10 bit panel with better colour transition).
More over, bravia + ps3 is a very good combo, i'll test some media server (with tversity which can upscale divx by transcoding it), and i'll show you =)
You should take a look to sammys too, specially to 40A656, with 100Hz motion treatment, but it seems there is some lag with ps3 (according to hdtvtest), and pb with 24p (which can be resolved with a firmware). But i believe it's a little more expensive.
You have to check, ask questions in the good threads (like the 40/46/52V4000 one or sammys one), and watch in a room (friends for exemple) instead of in a store.

Yeah, the Sammy 40a656 is a little off my money range
And the Sony W4000 is just a little over my budget
The truth is I can wait for a while, but I guess in the Xmas will be some discounts so I sit back.
what do you think ?

Hi, this is my first post so here goes! Did you buy the TV? If so which one did u go for?
I got the Sony KLV 40S400 model two weeks ago (which I believe is the Asian/Middle East equivalent of the KDL 40S4000 model). My old 28" Grundig CRT died and the Sony replaced it.
I am new to AV so I might not be of much help technically.
I compared a few 40" models available in the market here such as the the S and V series Sony Bravias, the Samsung A565 and the LG 42PG50 and finally went for the Sony based on reviews online and by what I saw at the Sony showroom (I found this forum only recently). I am very happy with the TV although so far its been all SD viewing except for a few 1080p WMVHD demo videos played from a laptop through HDMI-which are stunning |
