Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

08705 111999

Just called them and the person checked the latest Sony updates and couldn't see any mention of the problem. Which, as I told her, is amazing given the number of people who have had the problem last year and she logged the call for Sony to monitor so they can collate a record.

I could only find one fault listed in teh support pages for this type of fault. It was regarding the same temp blank screen/error with SKYHD boxes. This does beg the question what if its a Sky upgrade but I'm not sure if everyone is using SKy here. In any case why the PSU "click" if it was just a screen refresh of some kind. H

Has to be a hardware fault but the sheer number and timing of everones problem is very very bizarre. The JL engineer is coming out tomorrow for me in the afternoon and they have said they will probably take the set away

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

Yep - went into JL this lunchtime. They can only offer for their service people to come out and take it away for repair (leaving a loan tv).
There is a Sony centre in Norwich so may go in to have a quick word later.
Someone here at work questioned whether it could be problem with the sleep timer...? don't even know if it has one...

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

I'll ask the wife to check if we are getting a loan set as well....thanks Steve..for reminding me of that. The set has a power save mode which is the same sort of thing...it could well be something like that. Last night it ran for over an hour and a half without a cut out...then I went to bed.

I've also asked the guys from the HDTV Test website if they would like to post here as well so we an build a "case"...just if someone needs to show Sony that there is a wider issue here then just their own...especially if they don't have extended warranty and get fobbed off.

I hope its something more exotic than just a hardware problem.........I love a mystery but I suspect Sony will keep it quiet unless it becomes a reall huge problem. Product recalls are expensive and they would probably prefer to keep the repairs if the volume is not too huge on the QT

Its a shame but I used to live near the Sony run repair workshop....for the South East....which is next to Heathrow. If I still did I would pop in and ask the service manager what was going on.

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

This just in. Someone says that Sony are investigating a "broadcast" issue after calling the same support number I did....

Sony Bravia KDL-32D3000

If someone else could call and see if they now admit there is a problem. Ill try again later now I have a call ref number

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

Hi all,

I too have developed the save problem as the rest of you it seems - my KDL-32D3000 has started restarting randomly. The first time I noticed this was yesterday evening, it occurred about 5 times in total. There doesn't appear to be pattern to things as such but I can pretty much guarantee that it will restart within 5 mins of being first turned on. (tested this morning as well)

I bought mine from the CO-OP website about 14 months ago (so unlike many I'm not a John Lewis-er).

Thought I'd add my voice to the multitude.

Cheers,
John

Re: Sony 32D3000...goes off then on

Just to add my voice :-)

32d3000 purchased in 08/2007 from HiFi Confidential has started with the same problem. First noticed a week or two back, but seems to be getting worse...

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

Just to Sony myself...again. This time I got the "broadcast" issue. Guy seemed to know his stuff although there was some slight doubt of the exact cause. He said that the problem is caused by, in effect, a signal overload/incompatability from the SKy box....which causes teh TV to reset the picture until the signal corrects itself. Wasn't saying it was a Sky problem as such as the set should cope with it. But we agreed that with so many people having the problem at the same time it seemed likely.

Sony are working on the problem and appreciate all feedback. However he did suggest that I still let the engineer call.....to confirm or not what the problem is. Seemed a bit vague at that point but I guess Sony are still unsure themselves. I bet if they change whatever component is involved it will cure the problem as well.

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

I've registered my fault with Sony too.
Same story, number of people reported problem, currently under investigation, Sony quality testing engineer (something or other) will review and call back (unlikely) with details of the issue.

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

I phoned up Sony and reported the problem too. Didn't expect anything back but I just had a call from a Kiwi fellow at Sony technical support.

He confirmed:

1. There is an issue
2. It's being investigated
3. They don't know when the issue began but people have only started really reporting it to them today.
4. It's early days investigation wise but the feeling at the moment is that the cause could be a "BBC transmission issue".
5. The support section of www.sony.co.uk website will be updated when there is news. From what he was saying he didnt expect there to be any updates for a couple of days at least though.

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

So I assume we can just disconnect our sky boxes and see if there is still a problem?
The person I spoke to at JL today said she understood all the major work to upgrade the main transmitters to digital started yesterday - relevant?

Anyway - I have the engineer coming on Thurs am and have adviseed them of all the others getting this issue. Must be a central problem like sky / transmitter upgrade...

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

Hi Top Gazza,
It's Marc D (aka sprond!),
I've registered my issue with Sony and got a ref no. I've actually taken the set to the repair centre in Hull. Told Sony I do not expect to be paying for the whole repair and will seek advise from trading standards if they do not offer some sort of compromise.

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

My 32d3000 has been switching off and back on. Spoke to Sony today and got a ref number. Taken set in for repair and do not expect to have to pay (at least not all the cost).

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

This problem is not related to connections to SKY boxes. I don't have SKY but my 32D3000 keeps resetting when watching BBC programmes (on Mux 1). Those people with SKY should select a non-BBC program on the Freeview tuner of their TVs and the problem should not occur.

Re: Sony 32V3000...goes off then on

Hey Marc...thanks for coming over. Possibly they will not be able to "fix" the set and they do have discretion anyway of course. In the past Sony have been understanding with me and in this case they are bound to get a lot of people asking for repairs that may not be required.

Sounds like everyone logging in with Sony has shaken them up. Not sure I want the engineer to take my set away now.....might cancel the call and wait and see what happens over the next few days. Mind you if the problem is one that can't be fixed on the signal then its possible that our sets may need to be updated...not sure but paranoia is setting in.......

The fact that is is nationwide says it all. At least its getting some recognition. Might call the JL service centre in the morning and see what they want to do. As said in Are You Being Served "You've all done...verrrrry well"
