First Time LCD TV

Something with lots of greys [so you can look for repsonse times - the start of Xmen perhaps? Magneto's origins. Maybe the start of Saving Private Ryan]
Something with dark sections to test the black levels and constrast [errr, can't think of anything suitable. Matrix: Trinity's opening act - it's at night and inside a murky building. Ooh, I know! Fellowship Of The Ring the HelmsDeep battles, only if you've got a dodgy copy of a DVD screener]
Something with vibrant colours [like the opening scenes of Shrek or the chase sequence with the dragon]
Something fast moving [like Spiderman, where he's webbing his way through the city at a rate of knots]

Anyway, I'm all DVD'd out. Some others might have some better ideas.

Ok.. I should be able to sort some of those out.. I reckon Blade with the nightclub scene (and all those reds) would be good as well!

I know it has component input for connection from say a DVD progressive scan player or a progressive scan Xbox or a line doubler from Sky...In my case all apply and will be switched so I have got one connection normally to my projector. As I do not want to close the curtains in the summer evenings it would be great to split that one component cable out of my amp to both my projector and this Relisys RLT1720. This was I do not need SVHS connections at all so no cable switching from any of my sources.

I'd be really interested in what you think after your demo. Considering it has also an VGA input and 1280x768 native resolution I think it should not be a problem.....

Sounds too good to be true for this price...

John Lewis tend to treat 'pixel drop' as a fault (even if the manufacturer won't!), and usually will exchange the set for a new one - then sell of the 'faulty' one cheap! Even if they won't exchange then the set is covered by their 28 day return policy! so just give it back! This also applies to pc monitors and laptops!! They prefer to do all they can to keep the customer happy!

Just got back with a big box in the car.. I liked it so much I bought the display one

In depth impressions and photos later.. lets just say.. no blur!!!

Metriod Prime/Zelda via component looked beautiful.. though no prog scan support

I went to AV-Sales down near tunbridge wells.. and took my panasonic Q for testing.

I'll put up a proper review later when I have it setup with my arcam DV88+.

Hi

This screen had not previously been listed on the Relisys website. Upon checking today I note that it has appeared and it gives specs for the sound being 5W per channel not 2.5W as previously.

I for one am very interested in the review to follow. Detailed examination of the connectivity would be appreciated.

Do LCD tv's have response times like PC screens?

Because I've got a Hitachi TFT for my PC with a 16ms response time. I'd imagine a mugh higher one would cause lots of unsightly smearing in fast console games.

Gary,

They are exactly the same technology except with some other AV inputs and a tuner built-in. This model is also 16ms (or so the manufacturer's literature would have us believe), so it should be most excellent for gaming.

Back again.. just got in and the relisys is still in the box .. anyhow..regarding the response time.. the box itself actually specifies 25ms.. but theres no way it could be that slow.. I put on Zelda (the new one) and zoomed and rotated the camera.. it was clear beautiful and smooth.. no blurring or distortion that I could see.. the same for metriod prime...

A few quick points :

1. It has no zoom mode (only 4:3 / 16:9) so u would be stuffed with non-anamorphic films
2. It has seperate settings for each input.. but I played quickly with the brightness/contrast etc etc and did not really see a huge variation between the low and high settings (though it was a damn good piccy in the first place.
3. Component looked stunning - S-video was a bit softer.. but also looked great.. I'll be able to compare better once I get a s-video lead so I can play games via s-video and component
4. As previously mentioned it does no support progscan.. I basically got a double image when I tried to pass it PS from my cube.
5. Sound is very good considering the size of the speakers.. I was happily watching star wars/ blade sitting across the room and so easily be adaquate for the bedroom.. even when I headed to max volume it did not seem to be too tinny or bass light (you can adjust the bass/treble and balance in the settings)
6. Connections on the back include RF/s-video/component/composite ins - vga and stereo phonos along with a phone in (from a sound card for example)
7. I quickly saw it operating in PC mode and it looked crisp and clear.. from a quick glance at the manual.. if you used lower res's from your PC then it would scale it up to fit the screen automatically. (i.e like 640/480 from a DC)
8. Remote is simpley and works

So all in all a very good buy esp as its under £500.. I'll give more info once its up and running..

Thanks for the review so far. Could I ask you to check if it will accept native rate from a PC. Did you try NTSC and PAL prog scan? Also, is the tuner with teletext available yet? Thanks for your time.

Hi..

what do you mean by native rate ? If you use a rate other than 1280x??? then it will scale the picture up to fit the screen.

I believe the teletext feature is due this month (I don't think mine has it)

And no it does not accept PAL or NTSC progscan. (i tried ntsc from a gamecube)
