Really,how bad is the A656 imput lag?

That statement has been circling around the net for a while, and i want to know if anybody has any real experience with it? Is it really that bad if you are a gamer (which i am)?
Its really hard to get a grasp on whats true and whats not, and now some people say that the lag has been reduced through firmware updates, can anybody please shed som light on this whole affair?

I've had the a656 for a week now and played various games on 360, havnt noticed any input lag at all. seems a top TV to me.

Found this at Samsung LE40A656A Review in the comments section, I have a wii attached to this and have notice no lag.

I own the 40″ a656
Did some tests on the “calibrate lag” function on guitar hero 3 on Xbox 360 running through component.
Before the firmware update I ran this to test and was getting…
I ran the test a few times on each to get an average as the result are slightly different each time.
GAME MODE OFF* / 100hz disabled 66ms / 56ms
GAME MODE ON: 30ms / 33ms
With new firmware I tested again last night and got…
GAME MODE OFF* / 100hz disabled 27ms / 33ms
GAME MODE ON: 17ms / 2ms
*This was in STANDARD Mode
Backlight 6
Contrast 90
Brightness 40
Sharpness 35
Colour 50
Seems for me the update improved it. So question is? why? can it be improved further in the future? I think 3ms is barely noticeable anyway… Played Halo online last night and couldn’t notice a difference in game play from my CRT other than a superb picture.

interesting, so after the update, 100hz reduces the lag when in game mode. but how noticable is the lag when you dont have game mode on and playing a game where quick reactions are needed?

folks this is an oldie - sorry to dredge it back up, but my W4000 goes back tomorrow and i had hoped to swap for 656.

I game a lot, though not much online gaming (bar the odd COD4)

Will the lag really become an issue - honestly?
