Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA

Hi,
I am planning to get a 46W4500 in the next few months, but I wish to understand the Picture and Picture (PAP) facility the TV offers.
I think this means that at any 1 time, I can have a big picture from 1 source and a small picture from another source on the screen at once, with the option to hear either of the 2 sources on display....is the correct so far ?

Also, are there any limitations to this - I mostly plan to use this to have freeview signal in small picture with sound and HDMI or VGA signal in the larger picture.

If all of the above is possible, I would absolutely love this facility. Are there other combinations that are not possible ?

Would appreciate comments from those that have used this faciltiy themselves on the previous models (assuming they also have PAP).

Many thanks.

According the Manual it only does PAP for everything except PC, which on my TV was 2 pictures side by side. It does this for the Digital Tuner only.

"To view two pictures simultaneously – PAP (Picture and Picture)
You can view two pictures (external input and TV programme) on the screen simultaneously. Connect an optional equipment, and make sure that images from the equipment appear on the screen.

• This function is not available for a PC input"

It does PIP only on tha VGA with VGA as the main picture and DTV as the sub picture.

"To view two pictures simultaneously – PIP (Picture in Picture)
You can view two pictures (PC input and TV programme) on the screen simultaneously. Connect a PC (page 22), and make sure that image from a PC appears on the screen."

I think the Samsungs are meant to handle it better with the A656 doing both PIP and PAP on:

Main picture:
Component
HDMI 1, 2, 3, 4
PC

Sub picture:
TV, Ext.1, Ext.2, AV, DTV

But still isn't that flexible. I'm sure Toshiba when it was showing of their new super duper spur cell chips etc said it had the power to do multiple HD sources or something, so should be able to do HDMI PIP with another HDMI source. Will have to wait until the XF ships I guess.

Re: Sony W4500 Series 100Hz,50.000:1 Dynamic contrast,DLNA

Feeling anxious, yesterday I preordered a 40W4500, delivery ~1 week into october, according to the store, sony expects to have the tv's ready for shipment 1'st of october (from Holland, I myself is in Finland). 1,5k € which is a decent store-price, according to me, for a brand spanking new model

Hopefully I'll be satisfied with it. Thanks for everyones input in this forum that made me make up my mind

Thanks for your reply Ziffius.
With regard to the PAP facility, Correct me if I am wrong, I think this is the complicated manual's way of saying
-Apart from the VGA input, I can have any combination of :

Freeview
and
HDMI1 or HDMI 2 or HDMI 3 or Scart or Component

.......Excellent.

Thanks

I also plan to buy this TV because X4500 is just to expensive.

I have one stupid question, but I have to ask. Can this TV be mounted on the wall?

Thanks for the link I am very interested in this part of the review;

'It's good to ascertain that the W4500, like W4000, cough up very vividly photos'

Is this the new Bravia Bronchitis™ feature?

I expected more from you Chris, doesn't that review say the A656 is better than the W4000?

I never knew you showed Samsung such favouritism.

I find it very strage that they find Samsung A656 better then W4000 and W4500 better then the Samsung because W4500 is problaby the same TV as W4000 just with 100hz and a little higher dynamic contrast or maybe there are some improvments in the PQ after all?

Anyway this TV is still on my list with other TV's as Sony KDL40X4500, Samsung LE40A786 and Pioneer KRL-37V.

I think i will wait for all them to show in stores and compare them.

Me too, I don't think there's any substitution for seeing the TV yourself in the flesh.
