Yep might be having the 26", about time someone took the risk, if its a good set I reackon it will really pay off for them too.

Thanks for the head up CHRISGEO.

Edit: Oh the price doesnt look too good, why is it more than the 32 inch out already? I'd also be interested to hear if it has 100Hz and if its a 10bit panel.

Re: Wold's First 26" 1080p Lcd Tv

I am getting a sharp 32X20E, using it as pc moniter and ps3 gaming/bluray both sitting very close. If you have a 32inch and sit 2 feet from it's about the same as sitting 20 feet from a 52incher. Only difference is you can (almost) not use a 52 incher for computer use and it's way more expensive.

Only poeple with big (living) rooms should get big tv's al gamers/computer users want little tv's with 1080p!!!

LCD's can't display true 10bit color

Re: Wold's First 26" 1080p Lcd Tv

I am for one thrilled about this news. I’ve been on a hunt for a quality monitor coupled as a TV for ages and failed miserably. Hopefully these sets are reasonably priced. I also hope it has the quality ASV panel but, I’ll settle for an S-PVA.

32" Spec

26" Spec

So all the current big names in the LCD market are lying to us about including 10bit displays in their panels then...?

Re: Wold's First 26" 1080p Lcd Tv

10bit is achieved using simulation techniques

Here's a quote from my guide

The billion/trillion color LCD marketing scheme:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
All consumer LCD displays are either 18bit (262.144 colors) or 24bit (16.7million colors) and none of them can actually display billion or trillion colors natively. This is where internal image processing, FRC and dithering come in.

A 6bit TN panel (commonly found in budget PC monitors and portable devices) can only display 262,144 colors (2^6 x 2^6 x 2^6 = 64 x 64 x 64 = 262.144). By using FRC (Frame Rate Control) and dithering, manufactures were able to simulate higher colors without physically altering the panel (e.g. 262K + FRC + dithering = 16.2 million). This exactly how 10bit color and 14bit monochrome display work by using a native 8bit panel.

HDTVs on the other hand use internal picture processing to simulate higher number of shades which ranges from 8bit to 14bit. The purpose of this chip is to smooth out gray scales from this to this, therefore by creating the elution of 10bit color on an 8bit panel.

Re: Wold's First 26" 1080p Lcd Tv

So does anyone know if this will have 100Hz? I think it would be a waste if not, since almost every upcoming competing set seems to offer it now.

Nielo thanks for the info so the panel might still be a top one then?

This may be true of some models but the 10bit Sony LCDs are actually true 10 bit panels. This applies both to the D3000 and the new X3000 and X3500 models, I'd need to check the SPEC of the others. Other manufacturers may also have 10bit panels, I don't have that information.

The information that you have shown was probably correct 6-8 months ago but possibly need updating in the light of the recent models that have come on sale.

They got 'em down to 22 inch now, to be honest though you will only really see the benefit of them at 1-2ft, like a PC monitor:
