Question Toshiba 47WLT66, Sony 46V2000U, Sony 40X2000U or Sony 46S2010? Which one?

Sorry about all the model numbers, but I'm yet to make up my mind. I finally found the time to go into one of the few stores over here to make an initial comparison. I pretty much had my heart set on a Sony but then I watched the Toshiba and thought it was comparable to the Sony 46in models (please be aware that I'm no great techie, it's just my personal opinion). Then I looked at the 46V2000 next to the 46S2010 and the latter's picture quality looked superior. This confused me as I was under the impression that the V model was better. I think the X model is a bit of a dream as it's probably too expensive (unless I win the lottery).

My question is, which one do I get? I'd really appreciate the help as I appear to be a bit overwhelmed by the amount of different models and not knowing nearly as much as some people on these forums, I don't want to make a mistake. At the moment I have A PS2, a Sky + box and a Sony DAV Z500 cinema system. Do I really need to wait for a decent model with 2 HDMI slots or can I get away without it, based on my current setup? I'm also thinking of upgrading to Sky HD in the not too distant future.

Lol the Sony40X no questioning. How could you list the Sony 46S2010 next to Sony's X serie?

I did say I wasn't the best techie! I can't really afford the X although I'm sorely tempted.

I was looking for advice. No offence but what you've put isn't advice. I would just like to know whether the difference between the models is that much - is it worth paying the extra?

I should also say that the shop I went to has a free 5 year guarantee on the KDL 46S2010 which is rare over here.

the price difference is well worth it! go for the X if it out of your price range save for it you will not regret it !

The problem was you listed the 40X2000 in your list of posibilities, when it wasn't an option.

If you can afford the 46V2000 then that will thrash the pants off the 46S2010 and the 47WLT66...

But if you could stretch to the 40X2000 then that would be the best bet..

As your friendly (!) Moderator, I have to say how saddened I am in the way messrs LCDSeeker and -Bananas have treated this question - which, in MY opinion was well expressed and valid.

I hope I don't catch either of you behaving like this again.

I have deleted your less meaningful "contributions".

Now......................would anyone ELSE care to offer plank_of_wood any further guidance - especially whether or not (and perhaps more pertinently, WHY) he should save the extra for the Sony X-series ?

Apologies for confusing people - what I meant to imply was that I'd love to get the 40X but that It's out of my price range at the moment, but that I might relent in the future. Sorry if that didn't come across! I think a 46" would be too big for the size of the room and we'd also only be viewing it from a distance of c.2 metres. After consulting someone else, I think I'm going to save for the X because I'm planning on upgrading to Sky HD eventually (good job I get a pay rise soon!)

PS- the non clarity of my post should tell you that I'm of the female variety!

Ok I think you need to think carefully about what you'll be watching. If I'm correct then currently you're all about the standard def stuff (Sky, PS2), but you might be upgrading to Sky HD in the future.

For SD stuff, 2 metres is too close for 46". For SD you'd want 32" at 2 metres.
But... for HD stuff (Sky HD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, PS3, Xbox 360), 2 metres would suit 37" or 40" nicely (in my opinion). I think 46" might be a bit overwhelming even for HD.

So to conclude i'd say go for the 40V2000 (or if you can wait a few weeks, get the 40V2500 which will have 2 HDMI sockets). The 40X2000 will only be worth the extra money if you plan on buying an HD source that's capable of 1080p (future HD-DVD or Blu-Ray players). But you didn't mention that so I'd say 40V2000 or 40V2500 is the best bet

Yes I am hoping to upgrade in the future to Sky HD and either HD-DVD or Blu-ray, but I'll wait and see how things settle down before making any purchases on the latter. As for the PS3, I don't really play on my PS2 enough to warrant upgrading to a PS3, but that would be the only SD hardware left eventually (hopefully!). Thanks for your advice.
