Question Sony KDL-40W4100 problem: choppy movement - skipping frames

Hi,

I just got Sony Bravia KDL 40W100 and have some trouble with it, I hope some of you can help me

The tv is hooked up to xbox360 (1080p) via HDMI cable and I tested it on games and DVD movies.

The tv is skipping frames (or playing them out of order) every couple seconds. This is very noticeable during camera moves and cuts in movies and even more in some games (i stare at the traffic in GTA4 and can see the cars jumping back and forth as they move).

I tested various configuration and here's what I found out:

1) The picture stops skipping frames (and tearing objects in games) when I turn the 'cinemotion' off, however the movement is still choppy.

2) The movement's choppy no matter if i set the 'motion enhancer' to high, standard or low.

3) The only way to get a smooth image is to set the game-mod on, or to change the output settings in xbox to 1080i instead of 1080p.

4) I tested the tv at buddy's xbox and it was all the same. I also looked online for ppl having problem with 1080p output on xbox but didn't find anything.. so I don't think it's xbox fault.

And now for the INTERESTING PART:

Whenever I enter menu and the whole screen gets darker (so i can see the options) the movement becomes very smooth. I can watch the film behind playing as it's supposed to play. I' m not sure but it seems to me like the tv is having hard time moving bright objects around.

What do you think the problem is? I have 25 days to return the tv..

Thanks,

Martin

Unhappy Re: Sony KDL-40W4100 problem: choppy movement - skipping frames

In my case I have a Samsung LE 40 b 530, for any reason any scene with a lot of movement is slowing down, but this is not happening only when in 1080p but even at the lowest resolutions (848x 640) and even when it is not fullscreen, I am connecting a macmini g4 to it the same box on a 1024x768 goes smoothly on full screen.

Hope someone has gone thru the same and can help, I have 4 days to return it...

PS:I had issues too when the screen setup on 75hz that improved a lot on 60hz, still the TV is a 50hz too and I cant setup the mac os x that way

Re: Sony KDL-40W4100 problem: choppy movement - skipping frames

In my case it was something called 'cine-motion' a special mode that is utilized only for Bluray players on 1080p/24fps display mode. It was ON by default.. and it works well with Blurays... but otherwise I have it off.

As to your problem I'd guess it's the input signal not the TV itself (and how the tv is hooked up to the computer and computer spects etc). You might want to test it with a regural dvd player and see if you have the same problems. If you return it.. get something with 60mhz. You might want to post this in a forum about connecting tv to computer there somebody should be able to help you..

Erm, then why not use it ? As far as I can tell game mode cuts off a lot of the so called picture enhancements and optimises refresh rates.
