Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Hi All

First post

I'm another one who couldn't resist the 729 price tag, also getting delivered on Sunday. (nothing like unpacking a new TV with a hangover)
Still have some concerns over input lag for gaming, as coming from a CRT. seems to be a few different opinions on this subject, though there does seem to be a workaround with the PC settings.
Also curious as why the optical out will not provide 5.1 to an amp from external sources (page 12 of the online manual)

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Hi,

I want to know what is the best connection between my sattellite receiver -

one scart output ( CVBS/S-VIDEO/RGB/YUV output
Audio L/R output) and one composite A/V output -

with samsung B750 LCD TV (without Scart input).

Thanks a lot .

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Dear AV Forums. I'm new on here and am about to receive my Sam-B750 very soon. There is a review i've found on Amazon site about audio problems with the B750, which i have pasted here below, which concerns me a little? Can anyone comment on this, and please advise on which all-in-one home cinema is recommended to get the best from this LCDTV tv?

Thanks in advance!

"I've just purchased this screen and the picture is great, the set up was incredible easy and the product itself is lovely to behold and feels very well screwed together but the sound quality is rubbish. Normally I wouldn't mind about tinny TV speakers as I just feed everything through an old Technics AV receiver and some floor standing speakers to beef up the TV speakers; so I connected audio out from the back of my V+ box to the amp, turned up the speakers and there was a massive echo between the speakers in the telly and those from the amp. I turned the telly right down and the lip sync was so bad programmes were unwatchable. I understand HD pictures take a bit of processing that can cause a delay, and luckily the Samsung has audio out on the back of the telly so I fed these through the amp to solve the problem, and the delay was still present! After doing a bit of reading up I've since found out that while the Samsung delays the sound to the internal speakers to compensate for the image processing time, it unbelievably doesn't apply the same delay to the audio out - thus making external speakers impossible to use unless you have an AV receiver with an audio delay/lip sync function, mine doesn't so I'm looking at shelling out at least another £200 for an amp with a feature that compensates for the rubbish audio features on the telly (that's unless I'm allowed to replace my now unboxed telly for an with a Sony KDL40W5500, though I guess this is unlikely).

If you've already got an amp with audio delay then I suppose this telly'll fine for you, but for people in my position the failure of Samsung to manage to sync the audio out with the image is pretty much unforgivable, and will annoyingly prove to be quite costly."

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Mr Benn..

Can you be a little more specific about the optical out discussion? Does this mean that connecting a home cinema systems via optical link will not produce the 5.1 which the cinema systems is capable of? I'm thinking about the panasonic SC-PT470EB connected to the PS3???? This is concerning?

When was this review written?

Maybe a firmware update would fix this?

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

HandleyN

I believe audio delay can be fixed by setting the delay of the output in Engineers menu (Careful not to change other settings) there's a couple of threads on how to do it for the B650.

On the matter of the 5.1 issue, this is from the manual:

"When the receiver (home theatre) is set to On, you can hear sound output from the TV’s Optical jack. When the TV is displaying a DTV(air) signal, the TV will send out 5.1 channel sound to the Home theatre receiver. When the source is a digital component such as a DVD / Blu-ray player / Cable Box / Satellite receiver (Set-Top Box) and is connected to the TV via HDMI, only 2 channel sound will be heard from the Home Theatre receiver. If you want to hear 5.1 channel audio, connect the digital audio out jack on DVD / Blu-ray player / Cable Box / Satellite receiver (Set-Top Box) directly to an Amplifier or Home Theatre, not the TV."

As my amp does not have a delay function, connecting directly may cause a timing issue.

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Calling all B750 experts?

Can anyone help with the following cabelling connections, and in what order...?

Samsung LE40B750
Panasonic SC-PT470EB Home cinema
Sony PS3
Sky+HD Box

There seems to be some issues as mr benn said about the tv not sending out 5.1 via optical output - only 2 CH?

How can 5.1 be achieved with the above equipment without swapping the inputs and outputs round continuously?

Help appreciated.
This is an excellent forum and i've had some great replies having only posted a couple of time. Good to know there is A1 online support here!

Cheers.

Using the digital audio out connection on the back of the tv sorts this problem if your amp supports this. ( I had the same problem with the standard audio out plugs, so I bought a digital audio cable for a few quid). Also change the sound settings on the tv to external speaker mode.
Sounds like the original chap (Mr. J. A. Smithson) didn't try the above first - he returned the telly instead and got a Sony.

I think you are right! There's another option sold by Domestic & General for the same price but I can't find the T&C for that.

Suppose worst case would be to hook up to the amp using the phono jack connections, as they don't appear to have this limitation.

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Spent the last couple of days playing with my new 40" B750 - Very impressed, especially after some minor adjustments. Which need to be done, depending on what souirce you're watching and the ambient light conditions, as with any TV.

I haven't any external audio snc problems using the phono outputs.

Couple of niggles - On my TV the mains lead crackled at the IEC end when moved. Thankfully, this turned out to be a poor connector on the lead. The other problem was the black screw with holds the internal connector panel to the outside. Mine is dead in the centre of the oversized hole and doesn't bite on to anything. So when connectors are plugged or unplugged the whole internal panel, with its soldered joints move, not desirable. Rather than exchange it, I slipped a washer under the screw head, sorted.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed but it looks like Samsung must had a rethink on their pricing...TV is now back to 1199 at most of the high street retailers

Hope mine still turns up on Sunday

I don't think there's many sets left that's why they can put the prices up.

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Phew !!!

I purchased just in time. Just had a look on the Curry's website and the LE40B750 is back up to it's usual £1199 price tag.

I'm awaiting confirmation on the delivery.

Can anyone tell me if they have used the HDTVtest calibration settings for this ? DO they make a difference. I read somewhere else that i could use the the B650 settings for a better picture also.

Also, this is my first ever flat screen tv. Can somewhere explain how i upgrade the firmware, please. Do i download to a memory stick and then use the USB to upload or do i do something else ?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, you download the firmware and copy it onto your USB stick and use that to update. There's instruction on how to do this on the website, next to the firmware!

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Brilliant, thanks both.
I'm gonna have to do some more digging on this now.

I was all set for months to purchase a W5500....until this offer came along from Currys.

I can't afford Sky HD at the moment. I've got Sky+. Think i should just wait until after Xmas and get Sky HD or do you think it's worthwhile to get Freesat ?
Wouldn't mind watching some football on HD.

Did some more reading and you are right - the HDMI doesn't carry th 5.1 signal across to the TV.

Your best bet would therefore to connect the optical out directly to the amp.

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Great to see more B750 owners & see this thread getting bigger

I updated my firmware the other day from my original 1004 to the latest 2001 release using a USB stick. I was a bit worried at first but it went though so easy and only took a couple of minutes to do. No settings lost.

Not really noticed much difference picture wise... Motion seemed a tad better perhaps, remote & menus seemed to me to react a bit quicker.

Really wish Samsung would do a change list with the firmware so we know what fixes/updates we're getting. I work in IT and these change logs are so useful.

Already started saving my ££££'s now for a nice Blue-ray player... This great set is just crying out for HD stuff ! !

In another thread a B650 user seemed to suggest that updating to the 2001 firmware made the picture look slightly worse so they reverted back to the older firmware.

I'm not sure whether that would be the case on the B750 even though the core of the firmware is more or less the same in both models? Anyone else noticed any significant differences in picture?

Re: Samsung B750 Owner's Thread

Haven't looked on the B650 thread for ages....

Like I said, the 2001 firmware to me didn't seem to make a world of difference to the PQ for better or worse. My set will get a good test with this as I'm a big sports fan. Moto-GP & golf last weekend, Moto-GP & F1 this weekend and then the footy starts in a few weeks ! !

If you don't like the latest version, you can always roll-back to the previous release at the TV keeps that previous firmware in it's memory.
