Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

Forgot to mention, mine has the BN02 panel, and switching it on for the first time last night in a darkened room revealed the corner bleed that others have complained about on a blank screen. I am not too concerned yet, as I have not had a chance to play with the settings.

I have got to wait until Monday (when it goes on the wall) to see if this TV is going to really work for me. If it doesn't, I will probably change to a Panasonic 42PF11 plasma, but I'd much rather have the Samsung if I can.

Obviously, anything underneath that is soft will as you say soften any bumps etc during transit, but so long as you are sensible and as I say make sure nothing below is going to pierce the box I would not worry too much.

Your real problem will be getting it in, you may well have to tie down the boot and hope for good weather. If in doubt, just pay up and get them to deliver.
cheers tony, if the box size is as previously mentioned 1415 x 818 x 260mm, then i think i might have a remote chance laying it down flat if i fold down the rear seats and possibly push the front seats forward.

if worse comes to worse, i'll ask a mate who has an a4 avant to come along, its bound to fit in there laying flat!!

Nice Price. Another Salesperson at RS told me that these LED's will be coming right down in price soon.

I hope it is very soon. I have just bought a 46" 7020 from JL, and have 30 days to get them to price match further. I will be keeping an eye on the prices.

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

Out of stock at Tesco though

I'd be gutted if that was the proper price as I've just bought it from Amazon for just a little bit more!

The 6000 version is £1199.97 bizarrely

I have ended up, setting Standard up for viewing sport, Natural for my day to day viewing which I am also likely to use for Movies and I have also set up Movie mode based on Samsung UE40B7020 / UE40B7000 Best Settings (Calibrated) settings, which for me is just too dark and gloomy. Although its a nice picture and I can see why some like these settings, I think my Natural settings are far superior IMHO.

PS: I am now very happy with my SD PQ on this set, seem to have mastered it!
I'd be very interested in seeing your settings Tony - I've got annoyed with the service menu losing all my settings so I daren't go in there any more!

The HDTV test settings are OK for movies and SD although agreed they are dark, but smoother than the standards...

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

URGENT MESSAGE FOR daveb975

With regard to the viewing angles etc, I am pretty certain you will be very disappointed. Its hard to say for sure, as you would need it up etc but, although you can see the set ok from angles, and I have read (I think in this thread) some people saying its not good at all (a bit of an over statement IMHO), there is no doubt this TV (and lets be fair this probably applies to most LCD's), is definately at its best viewed straight on.

My advice is this, urgently go to a store (JL or M&S) and view it from some angles. You might want to make sure its on home settings first, but you could perhaps get an idea. I think others will probably agree with me, you also see the corner bleed a little more from angles, I think this is the LED side lighting shining through. Something else you might not be aware of, when I was in JL recently, they told me that if you return a TV, they will charge 10 to 20% to restock it, as they then have to try and sell it effectively as opened/returned, meaning for most people it will be deemed second hand! Even 10% on the TV I was looking at (this was last Saturday before I mastered my SD nightmare and was going to send it back until then) would have cost me £120, or £240 based on 20%. So, my advice is this: DO NOT OPEN YOUR BOX BEFORE YOU HAVE GONE OUT AND MADE SURE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE VIEWING ANGLES. I am sure, that if its been unopened, you should not have a problem getting a full refund, but I would check with them when you go into the store to check viewing angles. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is what I was told at the Southampton store and I would think its company policy nationwide.

Lanceuppercut, did you see daveb975's post

Not sure how that compares with what you have in mind, dont know that much about cars!

Jazzking, I will try and get them up soon. Will probably be early next week as I will be too busy this weekend. I will have to do mine all over again though, as I want to check a few things in the service menu, but as I say I now have them all written down, so its only about 30 minutes work! I now record each minor change I make, as you know, we tend to always tweak this and that, but generally I doubt I will be making too many more adjustments to mine.

Have a good weekend all,

Cheers,

Tony

They can't by Law charge you 10% or 20% to return the TV. If you are unhappy with the TV because there is something wrong with it and it's unfit for it's purpose, then you are fully entitled to return it and get a replacement at no extra cost. These retailers think they can make stuff like this up as they go along, and we are just supposed to accept it. RUBBISH.

It is unlawful for them to charge you money for returning it, Trading Standards will verify this for you if you want.

Thanks Tony. The box is already open unfortunately. I should be ok returning it if necessary. Although I bought it from my local JL in Kingston, I ordered and paid over the phone, so the distance selling regs come into play. They have confirmed that I can return it within 8 days for any reason I want to.

I have had good and bad experiences so far.

THE GOOD:
When I first turned it on in a darkened room, the bleed from the corners was visible on a blank screen, but not noticeable when a picture is on. I have not been able to view it from below yet, but it looks good when looking down on it.

THE BAD:
The picture from my Denon Blu ray connected by HDMI is poor. I tried Iron Man, and there were lots of moving dots on the initial blue screen where you select the language. This is not a problem with pixels or anything like that, but very weird.

Moving onto the film itself, and the well lit scenes are stunning at first glance, but there is a fair amount of noise in the picture. Darkened scenes are VERY noisy and I am finding this very distracting.

For a dark film like The Dark Knight, I think I prefer the image on my SD plasma!

I have not really played around with the settings at all at this stage, though, so I am not getting to despondent yet. I really want this to work, as it is aesthetically beautiful.

Sounds like a lot of your problems could be down to Noise Reduction and Sharpness. Turn both off.

I have this NAS and the Samsung works with the built-in twonkymedia on the 409. I don't use it as I have a separate media player, but I had a play and it does work for sure.

For the others talking about viewing angles, it also depends how close you are to the set. I have mine wall-mounted, and it is 2-3 feet above my eyes when seated - but due to the shallow viewing angle (I'm sat 4m away), I see no problems with the pictures at all

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

What sound systems does everyone have with this TV? My parents are ordering the 55' next week, and as a present I said I'd buy them the sound system for it, I don't really know anything about Audio so any reccomendations would be appreciated Would it be best going for Samsung to go with the TV? Budget around £500, and has to look swish

Something like this any good?
