You need to have a Novatech within an 8 mile radius of your local John Lewis.

Was yours the 40" version? I'm after a 46". JL are selling at £1999, but Richer sounds are within 8miles at £1499. Nice if i could get that with the 5 year warranty from JL

Thanks for the headsup

As I mentioned a few posts ago the 408000 is in Costco at £1322. The 468000 was in too. I can't remember the price exactly but I think it was around £1500. Might be worth a shufty if you're a member?

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

Hi all,

Finally took delivery of this TV today! Not had much time to play with it yet, but it looks super (in pic quality and functionality).

Very nervy hanging the thing on the wall with the Samsung wall mounting discs, but so far so still hanging

Anyways... questions!!

1) Internet doesnt work. Says bad connection. The ethernet cable was a pretty tight fit, so it may just be that - but are there any known problems on this or am I missing something in the settings?

2) Headphones. I cannot find any reference to a headphone socket for either the TV or the Samsung Blu-Ray home cinema (sound comes out of that via optical). Is there anyway I can use headphones with this set up? My missus is hard of hearing and loves to watch her shows with the headphones on.

I notice there is a 'red/white' audio out connection on the back of the Blu-Ray kit - can I use that with an adapter->3.5mm female for headphones? Total longshot so relying on you guys!

3) Firmware. Will this ship with the latest, or do I need to update? Not had chance to find where it is yet.

4) Any other 'just installed' tips you recommend are gratefully received.

And *** is that 'pebble' thing for... what a waste!

Answering some of my own q's here

1) was a bad connection - VERY tight fit, but works ok now.

2) Please help!

3) Got the new firmware and installed ok via USB. UI seems a bit quicker, didnt find a 'Twitter' widget though?

Got new questions

1) Whats the best streaming for this TV from a Mac? Tried Rivet and that didnt allow anything to be played. Just downloaded the demo of "Eyeconnect" and that works fine, but anything other than avi's dont play. Is this normal? Not a major problem as 90% of my stuff is in AVI.

2) Bigger concern is that non of my music plays from iTunes. Is this due to the native Mac format of the songs (AAC?) rather than the MP3 imports on the PC?

Cheers for any help!

the models it does list are the normal lcd tv and doesnt mention the led side lit tvs, the newer more expensive model which samsung recommends does state its for the newer led tvs. So it might work, but we wont know for sure till you buy it

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

It seems after trawling the net a bit more that it looks like you need the 09 one, which is £30 more of course.

I'll message the seller on eBay and see what he says

EDIT:

Just as I was about to I found this in their shop too:

Glad I got the model with ethernet connection - think another £45 would have finished my bank balance off after getting this TV and Blu-Ray yesterday!

Well I installed this last night and can't see any difference.

Not sure what new functions in Channel mode or Picture settings you see.

I think you could use NTFS before.

I haven't tried a WMV/WMA file but I'm hoping that will work with sound now.

I don't know where to look for a change log. Anyone have any more details?

Cheers

I don't think there are any analogue audio out connectors - only digital. Which surprised me, too. But you may be able to get some kind of adaptor.

You will need to get the update:
  1. Download it to your PC
  2. Copy the file to a USB drive
  3. Open/run the ".exe" file
  4. Safely remove the USB stick
  5. Insert USB drive into TV and run the update

Calibrate using the picture settings in this thread for much better picture quality.

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

Well I went and bought a 408000 this evening. A quick word of advice.

If you've got a wall mount then the screws supplied with the Samsung aren't long enough. They would be but the screws have a non-removable washer and a spring washer. Tomorrows job: hunt for M6x16's with no washers on.

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

Anyone have any issues with CE Dimming since the firmware upgrade?

I turned CE Dimming off for Movie in the Service Menu a few months ago, but kept it on for Standard.

I upgraded the firmware yesterday and now CE Dimming is off for both Movie and Standard - still on for Dynamic and Natural.

Haven't gone back into the service menu yet to see what's happened, just curious if anyone else noticed.

Also Dynamic Contrast seems not to have any effect on Movie or Standard any more.

Have Samsung disabled CE Dimming for all of us, or only those of us that entered the Service Menu?

Re: Samsung UE - B7020 owner's thread

I installed the latest firmware last night.

I have a pure bluray rip on my usb hard disk which no longer plays. It says "Video not supported". It worked ok in the earlier firmware. It is a MKV file around 22GB in size.

Anyone else confirm they are seeing this problem. I might downgrade to the previous version again.

Hi,

I had previously turned off ce dimming for standard and movie but after the upgrade it was back on for both. A trip to the service menu allowed me to turn it off as before. I also noticed a Dynamic Contrast setting in the service menu that I don't remember before. Of course that could just be my memory...

Turned off ce dimming and now the tv seems to be as it was before. Can't see any difference from the previous firmware.

I've yet to play with the media player since the upgrade - that's tonight's job.

Not sure what you mean by 'pure bluray rip'. What codecs are in the mkv container?

I have various mkv mpg1, mpg2 and mp4 files that previously worked. I'll try them tonight and let you know. I also have a WMV-HD that played with no sound. I'm hoping that the sound is now supported.

What we really need is a change log for the firmware upgrades. Anyone know how to get one? I looked on the Samsung website for an email address for support but couldn't find one.

Turned off ce dimming and now the tv seems to be as it was before. Can't see any difference from the previous firmware.

I've yet to play with the media player since the upgrade - that's tonight's job.

Strange! Yours was switched back on, mine was switched off in both.

There was a Dynamic Contrast setting in the Service Menu before - you're not losing your mind!

So what differences have you seen with this firmware?
