Any chance you can test killa sample ? You can download it from the link below, its a very high bitrate sample, approx 200+

Re: Samsung B650 Owner's Thread

Thanks for the Pics Bonaparte

My main concern is still the reflectivity of the screen, it's a pity because this TV has loads of good features and IMO is the only drawback, if the screen was matt I would be buying one tomorrow.

Great pics, thanks. In picture 8 showing the folders containing video files do you know if it is possible to display a picture (ie DVD cover .jpg etc) instead of just the folder icon?

Re: Samsung B650 Owner's Thread

Once you have opened the video file, even if it is for a few seconds, the TV creates a thumbnail based on a frame of the video which is then used as the file icon. It works quite nicely.

Regarding reflectivity, I think it is a subjective thing but I don't have a problem with it at all. I had to spend quite a while lining up the lampshade in the background with a dark patch on the screen just so that you can see it. The lampshade is quite bright. Also, the flash on my camera is quite bright so it is surprising that some of the flash shots are even clearer with the flash than without.

Re: Samsung B650 Owner's Thread

Tuko:

For the benefit of those that didn't see the private message, here is what I wrote:

--

Hi. I tried using the screen as a PC monitor and it seems to work nicely. No obvious lag moving windows round the screen and the mouse pointer is smooth. The issue with lag seems to be with the audio not the video. The audio gets delayed severely if you pass it through the TV. However, if you use separate speakers it should be fine.

--

I previously said that the picture seemed to have lots of lag through DVI. However, I've now realised that it was the sound causing the lipsync issue not the video. If you pass sound into the 'DVI/HDMI Audio in jack', it seems to emerge from the TV speakers with a noticeable lag. The HDMI lag is actually low (not apparent whilst using as a PC) but the sound lag is noticeable. I fixed this by passing the PC sound straight into my amp which eliminated the lip sync problem.

Again, I haven't spent much time messing with this aspect so it might be possible to reduce this issue by disabling the sound processing (the 2 speaker surround stuff etc) on the TV.

One irritating aspect which I gather is common with this type of TV is that the Phono Stereo Audio Out on the back of the TV is not synchronised with the video. If I try and use the Amp+Speakers with the TV sound, a disconcerting echoing occurs. The only way to fix this is to use the headphone socket as an amp source. This allows synchronised sound and remote controllable volume but disables the TV sound. If anyone has a fix for this, please let me know.

Bonaparte - Thanks for the info and sorry for all the trouble we're putting you in mate ^^ I guess we wanna know it all and we want it now ^^

I know you wouldn't like the sound quality of my suggestion but...can you try connecting directly your sound card to the tv's "audio in" by using a single cable? That's how I had connected my LG 7000 and didn't have any sound lag or any other sound probs. Of course the sound was average, but it was ok for what I wanted ^^

I used the rapidshare link, it took about an hour to download as the free rapidshare link is capped quite low.

strange.. I donwloaded from the link I posted above in 15 minutes (I think the cap is 300kb/sec which is plenty for a 100mb file :D)

That is what I did originally. I took an unused jack on my PC sound card, configured it to do stereo out, then connected a cable from the soundcard jack directly to the 'DVI audio in' jack on the TV.

I'll check again tonight and will let you know the results.

I can't imagine that that part of things has changed much since the A range so you might be able to find more detailed info on audio from a more experienced A series TV owner.

Re: Samsung B650 Owner's Thread

Hi,

Is the 'blockiness' or 'square-pixel-type effect' that's evident on the photo showing the episode of Friends because of how that channel is broadcast?

I'm completely non-techincal so don't know how to descirbe it accurately, but I get that effect a lot on my LE32R74 on certain channels and just assumed it's because of the TV. But from your photos, it's the only show that it's apparent in, so wondered if its a broadcast reason.

Thx.

Hi I have just received the 46B650 and had a play around with it for the past day. The SD pictures vary greatly with the set, for example smallville on E4 looks great but top gear on Dave looks terrible wiht the "blockiness". I think as long as you have a decent viewing distance the picture is very acceptable on most channels

Unless you make an effort to re-encode your video files to meet the DLNA video requirements, then no, it doesn't work. Samsung ought to reconsider this in a firmware upgrade (which is possible over USB) as it defeats an otherwise extremely useful feature.
it is not very nice from samsung that all supported files like MKV,MP4,AVI etc are not supported as the same as from USB HDD.
this is big MINUS and someone could have emailed samsung to fix this with firmware update later on. does anybody have direct email to samsung lcd department?

but anyway still better than nothing..lets say like sony W5500 which does not support nothing like MKV and MP4...

You have 2 options here either plug in to an AV amp that has a delay/sync option or you can get a felston lip sync box info can be found HERE

Are you able to check EDID info for your TV via HDMI?
Please post MonInfo report EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | Monitor Asset Manager
May be Samsung made smth with support LipSync and more audio formats?
A-series doesn't support those features

Re: Samsung B650 Owner's Thread

I just tried the killa sample .mkv from the rapidshare link, but my 46B650 failed to play it, giving an unknown format error

So much for everyone trying to convince me these .mkv files are so great, every DivX/xVid .avi I've thrown at my TV has played fine.

PS. My TV's current software version is reported as
Code:
2000/01/01_000101
Don't know how this compares with the couple of people that have got the 40 (or possibly 1 other i've seen here with the 46)

Many thanks for that. It is a very testing clip due to bitrates rather than the codecs. I can't remember if its DXVA compliant. MKV, when compatible with the set would be really neat. It will be interesting to find out from Samsung what the specs are for what it can play from a MKV.

This sounds stupid but if you rename the extension to mp4 does it cope any better?

Edit : No its not DXVA compliant

John Lewis also have these sets on display. They have the 32" at Southampton and were expecting the 40"
