I've been reading through this forum recently as I'm hoping to upgrade the lounge CRT to LCD next year and was just wondering if dead/stuck pixels are a thing of the past as I don't see much/any mention of these problems with the newer models (or am I not looking hard enough) ?

Stuck or dead pixels? Yes - they are still about! But quite rare now - as you say, not like it used to be.

These days, should you get a new set with stuck or dead pixels, they will replace it.

not true !!!

i bought a sharp LC37X20E about 5 months ago and it came with 4 stuck pixels. 3 are almost unnoticable as they only show up on dark/black backgrounds as a deep blue or red but one is a bright green and is noticable on everything apart from white screens.

sharp or the retailer will not replace the tv as there is a disclaimer in the manual warning about stuck/dead pixels. from my normal viewing distance they are not noticable anyway but if you go within about 3ft of the tv the bright green is.

the only retailer that will replace your set for stuck/dead pixels is LG as then now have a zero defective pixel policy. the rest will try to wriggle out of replacing the set as dead pixels is a side effect of the manufacturing process. dont worry about them as most of the time you will most likely not see any its just now and again you get one like i have which is really bright.

It's very reassuring that the problem is less frequent and good news that at least 1 company will swap your TV if it has pixel problems - let's hope all manufacturers follow suit.

You will still be out of pocket though, having to pay for the courier to send it back.

Spending £10 to get a display that is not faulty is probably very good value compared with the alternative of putting up with it!

ive probably returned in excess of 10 screens in the space of a year and half and every single one of them has had dead or stuck pixels maybe im unlucky but i think there more common then people let on.
