I have an R88 and am trying to apply the SKY+HD Settings as per the part 1 post and I am unable to select the HDMI Black Level option as it is greyed out. Any Ideas?

Thought I'd share my recent findings.

It wouldn't switch on over the weekend so I started with the basics, I switched it off for 24 hours and tried it again but still nothing.

So then I raised a call with Samsung the guy said it sounded like a known issue (sorry if it has already been cover on this thread)

He asked for the serial number, model type or version and he will put it down as "making a clicking sound and not switching on"

The best bit is the repair is going to be free. My TV is over three years old and well out of warranty.

Telephone number for Samsung is 0845 726 7864

Hope this hasn't already been covered and helps someone.

I've heard this a few times with Samsung, a friend got a brand new model in replacement for a broken 3yr old Samsung.

I found this thread (well, the first one) hoping to find some good settings for PS2. The wii and PS3 settings work great for those, but I've tried using the wii settings for the PS2 and it didn't seem to help in comparison to the default settings.

There wouldn't happen to be anyone still around that would care to share their PS2 settings would there?

Its been so long since ive posted in this thread.

Ever since ive had a 360 and my R88, ive been using it at optimal resolution 1:1 1360x768.

I got a new pc recently and wanted to use its HDMI so I was forced to use standard 720p on another HDMI connection for my 360 (the dvi one being used by my pc now).

At first, i didnt like the settings, like the first time i connected it to standard non native resolutions of 720p and 1080i. Blackbolt360 posted some 720p hdmi settings before, but i didnt like them at all.

I have now come up with settings using standard 720p hdmi on my 360 that are almost identical to the clean, crisp and authentic 1:1 dvi/hdmi connection displayed from my 360.

Mode: Standard
Contrast: 69
Brightness: 65
Sharpness: 0 (or up to a max of 10 if its too soft).
Colour: 50 (can add or take away a bit to taste)
Tint: 50/50
Colour Tone: Cool1
Backlight: 8 (or taste)
Picture Size: Just Scan
Digital NR: Auto
DNIe: Off
Game Mode: Off
Energy Saving: Off
HDMI Black Level: Low

360 Dashboard Settings: *Found in Settings > Display

Display Discover: Disabled
Reference Level: Expanded
Colour: Source

Enjoy.

Has anyone got a PC/HTPC connected to their R88, if so what resolution do you set for the PC?

I do.

If you are connected via VGA or HDMI #2, then choose 1366x768 OR 1360x768 for the best pic.

If you are connected to HDMI #1 or '#3, then you will need to choose 1280x720 + Just Scan in the picture options.

Optimal Resolution if you are using HDMI #2

720p with Just Scan if you are using HDMI #1 or #3

EDIT: Also, look a few posts down. I have posted really good settings for 720p for the 360.

I am using HDMi 2 Port so I should use Optimal Resolution & try your settings below..right (currently using Game Mode Default)

1) With Optimal the picture goes darker is that normal.

2) How do you find the black levels (do they crush)

3) Display Discover: Disabled - Is turning this feature of important

Mode: Standard
Contrast: 69
Brightness: 65
Sharpness: 0 (or up to a max of 10 if its too soft).
Colour: 50 (can add or take away a bit to taste)

No. Dont use Optimal Resolution if you want to use these settings. Use 720p, and if you have a PC or want it connected via HDMI, reserve HDMI #2 for it. Otherwise, you can use HDMI 2 if you want 1360x768. Turn Game Mode On. I cant tell you exactly what else to have what set to (like sharpness etc.) as I dont use Optimal Resolution anymore.

What is causing the picture to go darker could be HDMI Black Level. play with that option, but this is just speculation on my part.

The above was just some questions I had

I am currently using your above settings for my 360 via HDMi on Port 2 and 720p

just wondering why do you choose Source over Auto is it better for the TV

Bit of a silly question but why use 720 with your xbox 360 through hdmi when the tv can out put 1080i?

Mode. Standard
Contrast. 80
Brightness. 50
Sharpness. 30
Colour. 50

I'm actually selling my telly now now in the classified sections.

does anyone know if the settings changed in service menu will change for all inputs automatically

or do you have to change each input manually.

Hello!

I've just got the Foxsat HDR currently it is hooked up via HDMI 2 as the Xbox is on HDMI 1. Is there any way to get the TV to change automatically from one back to the other when either is switched on or off? At the moment I have to manually change between the 2 HDMI channels.

Also, does anyone have any optimal settings for the Foxsat that they recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Steve
