It took him several hours to calibrate th TV, so he might wait with the firmware upgrade since he got excellent pictures with his settings and firmware version.

If you search the Norwegian avforum (www.avforum.no) for "led is in da house" you will find the thread (in Norwegian).

Many thanks Vidar had a look through forum, my Norwegian is not up to much but hopefully Lygren will recalibrate the 786 soon. Keep in touch.

You should learn Norwegian and join the exclusive 5 million club. I'll keep you informed if he updates and recalibrate.

Thanks Vidar, I have problems speaking English (only joking) never mind learning Norwegian. Here's hoping Lygren recalibrates sooner rather than later.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

I know its off the topic for the moment but can anyone shed any light on how to connect this TV to computer i.e. does it have to connect in a specific HDMI port in the tele etc. I'm having difficulty making the two work together.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

I have finally managed to find the time to wall mount my LE46A786 after keeping it in the box for a few weeks.

I had plugged it in when I got it to check it worked ok.

But after watching various things tonight with a lower ambient light level in the room I have noticed that when a bright part of an image is displayed at the very edge of the screen, the bright parts are visible on the outside of the bezel where the blue tint is.

This happens all round the frame but is more obvious on the bottom side as its nearest to eye level. Its quite obvious now I have noticed it and is quite annoying.

I looked closely at it and it appears the light is being transfered through the centre of the bezel via the join between the two parts where they are glued together and shows in the clear part at the very edge.

Does anyone else have this "issue" ?

I am almost tempted to apply black insulating tape around the whole frame to cover the blue tint and the clear part. Its not an ideal fix but Im not sure if I can be bothered with the hassle of an engineer call out and the subsequent hassle of a replacement bezel etc.

I am not 100% sure what you mean but sometimes light is reflected from the outer clear part of the bezel depending on the image on the screen. I did notice this first off when I got the tv but haven't noticed it for quite a while now.

I think some users referred to this as a halo effect.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

thanks for that, I was under the impression that when someone referred to a "halo effect" it was something that surrounded a small bright part of the screen ie when displaying outer space and a star gets the halo around it due to the local dimming LEDs?

I am meaning the very outside edge of the bezel which is about 5mm thick and is the clear bit before it turns blue. Its this clear part that seems to display the bright image shown at the edge of the screen.

It reminds me of a traditional indian restaurant I used to frequent which had engraved clear perspex to divide the tables and a light was shone from above through the length of the perspex which meant the light hit the engraved parts of the perpex sheet and lit up whatever was engraved.

Hope that makes sense!

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

yes some people refer to that as halo affect but most use the term blooming.

I think I understand what you are talking about and I think probably all sets with the same bezel design have the problem with bright light reflecting off it. Though i've never really noticed it after the 1st few weeks of having the set.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

The bright light isnt being "reflected" on to the bezel, its definately coming through the bezel directly from the LEDs to the edge of the bezel frame.

I think I can live with it but Im surprised that the light leaks from the screen, behind the main black bezel and then shows itself at the outer edge of the bezel.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

Its not "Blooming" as I understand it.
If you stand edge on to the screen and look closely at the thickness of the bezel edge, you will see the light shine as a bright scene is onscreen.

I can understand it being annoying if its on the wall and your looking up at it,but its got to be compared to the all over performance of the set which,I think we all agree,is excellent.

Black electrical tape would fix it,but really??

I agree now about the electical tape, just an initial thought.

Im just surprised that no one else has mentioned this occuring, as Im sure Im not the only one to have the TV flat on the wall and at a height that its noticable.

There have been mentioning of this before and I think someone did actually block it somehow (with tape probably ). Have a look at this threads first part: http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-t...eries-led.html

To djphatic: This has nothing to do with blooming or halo effect, which mean the light circular areas you can get around light colored objects on dark background. This occurs especially if your brightness setting (and backlight) are too high.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

The relevant posts relating to this exact issue are on page 26 of that thread link in the previous post.

It seems someone mentioned it and suggested black tape but said they would stick it on behind the bezel but from what I can see it would need to be stuck on the front of the bezel

Ive PMed the person who had the issue so hopefully they will reply but they dont look like a very active member on here.

Hi again
It looks like Lygren has changed to one of the new thin edge- LED LCD's from Samsung. I'm not sure if he still have the 786. Therefore, I would be surprised if he presents new calibration values.

Kafu007;

I think that we have spoken on PM since you posted your last.

However,in answer,I don't go into Service Menus.I am not qualified to be in there.Any foraging around in there that resulted in a problem would negate my 5 year warranty.

If my picture could be said to be less than optimum because I havn't married mpartners settings to settings in the Service Menu, then so be it.

I'm very happy with the pictures and all round performance of my set.

Good Luck,

KH

I have had the same thing with the light "leaking" from the joint between the bezel and the clear panel. I contacted JLewis who sent an engineer who then put a new bezel on it and all is good, nay VERY good. It was a fault on the finishing of the bezel. If you pay a grand for a TV the last thing I would do is stick tape on holes........

That's very interesting, helpma, I've got that Light leakage, but hadn't noticed it because of the Sets position.

I see that the infamous "Bezel Cracking" that seemed to be confined to 656 models is also happening to 786's.

Wonder if the two are linked?

Thanks for that, I only seem to notice it on the bottom edge as the set is mounted on the wall with the bottom edge at almost eye level.

Not sure if I can now be bothered to make an issue of it as Im not noticing it as much. Thanks for your reply though.

Hi Vidar that is a real shame, you could ask him if he can do some calibaration with the new firmware if he still has the set.

Is there anyone out there who has updated firmware and do you still use mpartners settings what are the results.

Hi

Does anybody now if the samsung 786 uses white leds or coloured leds ?

I read on engadget that in 2009 most of the manufacturers will be using white leds because of cost.

Samsung have bought/been granted the Licence from Osram to manufacture White LEDs for their sets.I'm pretty sure that if they had RGB LEDs then there would be more publicity about them.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

I also have another question by the way:

When I watch movies from my computer I can't help but feel that there is a slight delay in the video displayed on the TV. It seems the audio is a *little* bit ahead. Can this be true or am I imagining things?
The TV is of course doing some processing on the image but I would have though it to be so fast that any delay would be unnoticable. But then again, I am not quite sure if it all in my head, hehe.
I do not use PC mode because it limits the settings a lot...and also I prefer to use PC mode with my PS3.

If you can see the delay, its probably true. Depending on the player you are using you should be able to set audio delay. Usually 100ms should be enough, sometimes 150ms required depending on the video content. Seems like this Samsung has latency around ~100ms even when most of the video processing is turned off.

Re: Samsung LE-A78x SERIES LED *Part 2*

Ok, thank you for the reply. I use media player classic in Windows and VLC in linux. They are both able to set a delay, so I will try that.
I had though of doing it actually, but guess I was hoping for a "NO, there is absolutely no lag!" response!
