Ok,

they emailed me again, very short & sweet;

Officially - NO firmware updates thus far have improved lag. They didnt say if they were planning it though. My guess would be no - if they havent done it already.

No, you still have to go into the SM and turn the option (can't remember what it's called, dynamdim?) on and off for it to be properly off. Such a daft mistake by Samsung... Apparantly it does mess with the warranty, but if you bought the TV from a shop which gives you their own warranty, you'll be fine.

Many thanks Toadus, I bought the TV from Crampton and Moore, with their 3 year warranty, so I should be OK.

I do find the auto dimming very frustrating on dark scenes. I think I'll do the Service Menu mod.

I would like to connect my PC to the TV using the HDMI connection on my graphic card, this will most likely not be a problem, my question concerns the sounds.
I would guess there would be no sounds through the HDMI connection since it comes from my graphic card, the question is what would be the best way to bring the sounds to the TV?

My PC is an AOPEN XC Cube EZ965, it has the following audio output:
HD Audio ALC888 7.1CH
Line-In (Surround-Out L/R)* x 1
Line-Out (Front-Out L/R)* x 1
Mic-In (Central/Subwoofer out)* x 1
Front Mic-In x 1
Front Earphone-Out x 1
Optical-In x 1
Optical-Out x 1
Coaxial-Out x 1

Back picture:

When I look at the back of the TV for the Inputs, using HDMI for the video and DVI IN (HDMI 2) for the audio with a Mini jack to RCA looks like the easiest solution but maybe not the best?
Can I use the Optical-Out (SPDIF in front of my Cube) to connect to the TV?

Any advice would be welcome, Thank you.
After reading the manual it seems like they recommend to use HDMI2 input for computer with the RCA input... Isn't there a way to use the SPDIF input on the PC input with HDMI2?

Thanks.

I want to turn the automatic dimming off in the service menu but I'm having a problem.

I can get into the service menu but I can't select the "advanced menu". Pressing "4" does nothing and highlighting the "advanced menu" option (turns yellow) and then pressing enter does nothing.

What am I doing wrong?

Yes. Pressing 'zero' 4 times in a row automatically takes you into the option. When you find the autoDim or whatever it's called, turn it to On, return out of that particular menu, go back in, turn it to Off, then that's it.

It's worth doing if the auto dimming bothers you. As you're asking the question, I guess it doesn't?! In that case, it's not worth doing.

Hi Spaced K

Its up to you - if you find the auto-dimming obtusive then disable it. I find it OK so have never bothered with it.

I really need help.

I connected the pc to the television using the HDMI2 and everything works fine using the 1360*768 Resolution. The problem is when i set the resolution of the pc to 1920*1080 60Hz the tv gives me large black bars on top, bottom and sides!

It handles the resolution but it doesn´t fill up the entire screen??

What picture mode do you have the TV set to? 16:9, 4:3 etc...

Did you have a look at the manual? It seemed to be quite good for information on connecting up a PC...

I think you'll find that the 32" screen format is 720p and not 1080p.

No, the 32" A656 is 1080p. I've got one and I can confirm this.

You need to change the overscan level to 0 in the configuration options of your graphics card.

Quick question... Am I correct in assuming that the A656 is the cheapest 100MHz set in the new samsung lineup ? What's the next cheapest 100Mhz model?

So it looks like for me to get audio I need to buy surround sound??? When buying the tv the guy in the store said I could get audio to this tv fine as long as I use that cable, it aint helped me, with this tv

Re: Samsung LE-A656 FULL HD 100Hz(50.000:1 CONTRAST,USB,6ms RESPONSE TIME) *Part 2*

Can anyone help me before I take my TV back to the shop? I have a LE37A686M1F and have attached my PS3 80Gb to it with an HDMI cable.

The problem is that I can only get the TV to display the PS3 at a resolution of 720x576p @50Hz, I can get the same resolution when playing a DVD (even with the PS3 up-scaler set to full), if I play a Blue Ray with 24p turned on I get no picture or sound, and if I play a Blue Ray with 24p off I only get 720x480 @60hz.

Pluging the PS3 with the same cable into my 20" Sony Bravia I get 1080i at 60Hz for all of the combinations above (which is the max the Sony can do).

I have tried resetting both the PS3 and Samsung TV to factory settings and have tried setting the PS3 display manually and automatically with no joy.

Thanks in advance...

Only two solutions I can really think off. Plug TV into PS3, turn PS3 on and hold down the power button until it beeps 3 times. It should sync with the TV and display the optimal resolution.

Alternatively set up the display manually and only choose 720P and 1080P as your chosen resolutions.

Re: Samsung LE-A656 FULL HD 100Hz(50.000:1 CONTRAST,USB,6ms RESPONSE TIME) *Part 2*

I have an 37A686 (technically identical to 656) and it seems to have developed a worrying fault...

I am getting a flicker that I have noticed with 1080p inputs and component, it seems to effect anything with 60hz, Its strange as I have been watching stuff for a whole month with no problems and now it will flicker after a few minutes or less.

Note that if I input 1080i it stops, but obviously I don't want to do this!!!

What should I do????
